Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, January 29, 2018
Page 3
safety, potential erosion and costs that we believe are going to negatively impact our
neighborhood and the community.
Thank you for your time.
Nancv Lanese
6612 SOM Court
I live right next to Jennifer. I moved in shortly after she did. I selected my property based on the
existing Master Plan. What I wanted to address is basically the connector system. Specifically, I
would like to review the existing pedestrian network. Notice the east side of SOM, the existing
network is complete and runs north to south. When you cross through the tunnel, there's
nowhere to go and it's not connected to the west side of the trail. Basically when you come
through here and go up through the trail, you basically stopped because there was nowhere to go,
no sidewalks. The Master Plan has changed. In that, the sidewalks have been added to the west
of SOM Center Road. You can see I drew in green the highlighted section here where in the
Master Plan these weren't part of that, but now you have the sidewalk. When you cross through
the tunnel there is nowhere you can go and it's not connected to the west side of the trail. Now,
when you cross through the tunnel you can connect to the east side of the trail by walking a short
distance south and connecting through the trail near the Fire Station. So simply go through the
trail a short distance. This is all connected now to the trail that's going behind. Or, by walking
north through the connector; go here, there's a sidewalk there that now connects you through
Beta to the existing network. So the trail in our minds is now fully connected as where it was not
in the original plan. The original plan made sense. When you came through the tunnel, you
could not go south, you could not go north. This trail connector made sense. Therefore, we are
saying and our position is that the proposed trail in the greenspace is now redundant and not
needed as originally proposed or planned.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you:
Monte Merza
We enjoy the trails quite a bit. We have a young family. We utilize the trails quite frequently
and we love the fact that they are easily accessible. We love the connectivity of the trails that we
have. We are homeowners in the Parkledge community and the proposed trail is actually going
to go right next to our backyard. We are right next to the trail. We have two small girls who
enjoy the backyard with friends. They hang out there quite a bit in the summer. There are also
big children in the neighborhood. .
We have a lot of children who visit Parkledge, especially in the summertime, visiting their
relatives. It poses a security issue and we typically don't have to worry about our girls when
they hang out there right now, but when strangers start walking around through our backyard, it
will create a lot of anxiety for my wife and I. We love the fact that we have a trail. We want the
residents of our Village and the surrounding areas to enjoy the trail system but not at a cost of
any security. We want our neighborhood to be secure and for it to be safe. I would like the
respective Councilmen and the Mayor to please be against it. Thank you.
