Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, February 19, 2018
Page 12
the bank, we have talked about a lot of these issues. We talked about security. Every member of
Council went to view it as well. There are some minutes.
Mr. DiCicco stated, I saw the minutes.
Council President Saponaro stated, if you would like to see all of the minutes on that, you
certainly can call Mrs. Betsa and she would be happy to provide that for you.
Mr. DiCicco stated, I saw the minutes on that. Is there a security issue with the actual trail? Is
there something already in place?
Council President Saponaro asked, is there a security issue as it exists right now?
Mr. DiCicco stated, a security issue with placing that trail.
Council President Saponaro replied, nowhere in the Village do we have a path that is this close to
residential property. Because of that, it's something new and different, however, I don't know if
there was a particular safety study that was done on that. Chief, was there a safety study done on
this?
Chief Edelman replied, actually, when the Greenway Trail was opened, I was approached by
members of the parents and teachers from Center School with this particular concern and they
were very nervous that there were going to be strangers walking through the backyard of Center
School. I did considerable research on this along with the Chief of the Metropark Rangers. What
we found was that the more people that use a public trail, the safer it becomes. That's a little bit
different than the way you are talking about in your neighborhood because you don't want a trial
running through your backyard. I understand your concerns. But the research I found still holds
a lot of validity. The more people who use the public trails, they safer they are. I don't know
whether or not your concerns would mirror that because we don't have that in Mayfield Village.
I can't address your specific concerns. We just don't have any data.
Council President Saponaro stated, okay. Thank you.
Mr. DiCicco stated, you are saying it is a$360,000 project to put this in. We are getting some
significant aid from the Sewer District, right?
Council President Saponaro replied, no. Not for that.
Mr. DiCicco asked, it's all linked together, right, in a sense?
Council President Saponaro replied, we have to pay the $360,000.
Mr. DiCicco asked, how much would this project cost without that?
Council President Saponaro replied; it doesn't cost us anything Without that. We don't pay
anything.
