Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, February 19, 2018
Page 17
made some very good remarks, to have those be adopted and put into the next Voice of the
Village so that everyone can understand what the vision is for this very important organization
that collaborates with our Commission on Aging and supplements and works together with them.
Does anyone have any questions for her regarding the organization or the motion that is pending
at this point?
Mrs. Mills stated, I think that since we have such a good audience tonight, maybe if you could
explain exactly who participates in this and just a small overview about what you really do for
the seniors which is wonderful.
Wendy replied, the Community Partnership on Aging is a 40 year old organization. It is
comprised of 5 cities that have come together to provide services for their older residents. It
initially started with just congregate meals and over the 40 years, the services have expanded and
grown to meet the needs of the residents themselves. So now, in addition to congregate meals or
any kind of ineals, we served 10,000 meals last year, we also provide transportation and we
provide social work outreach and assessments. We provide light housekeeping. For some of
these folks, it's the only human contact they have all week. We provide projects provided by
volunteers that are summer construction projects. We had three in Mayfield Village last year.
One of them was to take down a structure that the city couldn't do and we stepped in and we did
it for them. We provide volunteer opportunities for over 200 volunteers in our group. We have
trips, just like you have here in Mayfield Village. We have more services in those realms.
Essentially what we are trying to do is where everybody is, we are trying to meet their needs. We
have programs that help amend homes to make them safer. We put in grab bars and ramps and
things like that. Again, it's something that would help people stay in their homes a little bit
longer. We have a new program called Care which is designed for residents who need some light
home maintenance kind of activities that a person pays a subscription to the Care program and
then they get 6 opportunities to have improvements done to their homes, external and internal.
They are called bundles. We find that the most popular bundles for some reason is the
landscaping and the outdoor, either leaf raking, snow shoveling or something in that realm
bundle. That program was developed two years ago, again because the need was out there for
folks who are not in a place where they qualify for free programtning because their economics
are a little stronger but yet they are not in a position where they can use the little bit of help to do
the home maintenance so that they don't have to decide between different aspects of costs.
Council President Saponaro stated, what you are saying is that although they have the financial
means, so they don't qualify from that aspect, for them to have to try to figure out who, how,
where, when and the practical realty of that whole process which is a daunting task for those of
us who are not seniors yet, you take over that.
Wendy added, we try to make parts of life easier. There's enough to deal with. We recognize
what the challenges are and we step in and try to ease some of those challenges for people. We
are here for everybody, no inatter who you axe, no matter what your socioeconomic status is, no
inatter if you have family in town or not, if you need something, call us and we will make it
happen for you.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you. Does anyone else have any questions?
