Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Couilcil.
Monday; June 18; 2018
Page 14
Danielle Echt (Parks and Recreation)
Parks and Aeereation Board - As Diane said, Tfie Grove does open this weekend..
Saturday'is our first event. It's a Shakespeare Festival. Parks and Recreation Board did
not ineet this month. Also; I just wanted to remind everyone that the Fourth of July
Celebration is. Saturday, June 30"' witla free admission to the pool, free admission at The
Grove and events planned all day.. Chief Richard Edelman (Police Department) - Thank you Council President. First I would
like to comment briefly regarding the commerits on the Highland Road project that we heard.
earlier. I spoke to Chief Carcioppolo earlier today and he wanted me to reiterate what he said
last month that the houses that.are planned, wliether it's four houses or 26 houses, he doesn't feel
that that would cause any kind of a severe drain on his departmerit, so there would not be an
impact on the Fire Department. As far as the Police Department, I realize the traffic on Highlarid
Road and SOM adjacent to Highland is definitely an issue there and I recognize that that's a
problem there. I am in the process of compiling traffic data on Highland Road. I have a device
that does that. In fact, it compiles that data on a 24/7 basis. What it does is it records speed and
traffic volume on a routine basis. It gives me an aggregate number over a period_ of time. When
1. compile data over a two-week period, I will have a way to cumuiate. that and I will be able to
address Cquncil and the parties more intelligently. We will sit down and we will discuss what
kind of an impact that has now and what it may have in the future. I just wanted to let you know
that that's in the works.. I am doirig that as we speak.
Council President Saponaro stated, very good.
Ghief Edelman continued, secondly, we had.discussion at Caucus about the new SRO position
that's being proffered by the School Board and the new full-time police officer position that is
resultirig from that. Our intent was to vote and create that new full=time position and staff the
SRO. We wanted to move forward with that. I had a discussion with Mr. VJynne earlier today
and we pretty much deteimined that we really can't do that until we have some kind of motion
frozn Council, is that right?
Mr: Wynne asked, you will be pulling a Class A.patrol offcer out of rotation to serve as the
SRO, correct?
Chief Edelman replied, that's correct.
Mr. Wynne asked, and backfilling that position with a Class C?
. i-

Chief Edelman replied, correct.
