1Vlinutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday,. June 18, 2018 .
Page 2
Comrr?ents from Mavor Bodnar
Tliank you Council Presiderit. Just briefly, on June 7t" arid 8`i', I attended the Empoweririg Local.
Leadership Surrimit in Washington, D.C. Mayor Schneider from Gates Mills drove, so we were
able to carpool and share in. expenses. It was a good experience. We heard from a lot of our
Congressional representatives as well as from cabinet secretaries and similarly-positioned
people. It was a show of good faith on our part because we are always encouraged. to go to that.
.. Beyond that, there, weren't a lot of specifics given to us. We were encouraged to apply for grant
money and to get some money from the different departinerits. Nothing specific was said. .We
will look into possibly what money is available and how we can go about cloing that. Thank you.
Comments from Council President Saponaro
Happy Birthday to Steve Schutt. I know your birthday was June 16'h. Mayor Bodnar's is
coming up. Happy Birthday to you both.
Also, condolences to Mr: Skoda, I understand your mother, Mrs. Skoda passed away.
The rest of my comments wiH be interspersed throughout the rest of the agenda.
OPEN PORTION
- For Public Comment (5-minute limit imposed by Chair)
Stivo DiFranco .
6580 Highland Road -
Good evening. I am here to speak today again on the issue before us of the.proposed rezonirig on
Highland Road. I have spoken at several different meetings. . I have spokeii at Citizen's Advisory
and Planning and Zoning and also flie public meeting which we receritly had here on tliis topic in
opposition to it.
I just wanted to provide. again the details and several argizments opposing the rezoning of this
particular parcel of land. First and foremost, we do have a flooding issue. up in that area on Highlaiid
Road. We have a riparian zone that is associated with those properties and we do have flooding that
carries on into the neighboring ,propei-ties. T have photos of a flood situation during a rain event
where the church's driveway was entirely under water there. It's clear that tlZere's a flood way, a
flood sireain, a flood passageway, a waterway that cuts tluough tliat area there so there is certainly
that particular piece to consider.in reference to this rezoning proposal..
There are traffic issues on Higl-dand Road, specifically during the rush hour tiines in the inonung and
in.tlie evening and this proposed rezoning will certaii-dy start that silowball effect of bringing in more
traffic onto Highland Road. I will get into this a little.bit more but there are several properties on
Highland Road tllat could fall in nature to tlus type of development which N?lould increase traff c

Fl
L
