Miilutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, June 18, 2018 . Page 3
congestion on Highland and withiri Mayfield Village in its entirery. Mayfield Village already suffers
from traffic congestiori, especialTy di.iring those rush hour areas. •
Village services would increase in Fire and Police and other services associated with this type of
development and the Village again would potentially start to moye down the path of losing its
Village status and looking into a city setting:
There are potential other developments in Mayfield Village or on Highland Road that could fa11 in
this similar nature, again adding to congestion to both.Mayfield Village and to Highland Road so this is not just a Highland Road issue, but this is a Mayfield Village issue.
Certainly those most affected ori Highland Road are opposed to it. Many of those folks are here
today. The 2020 Master Plan whicli was endorsed by Mayor and Council is coritrary to this type of
development iri this area as I have stated in the past. It is currently zoned for single-family residence
and it will match the existing housing structures in the area as single-family residence. Puttirig in
cluster homes will certairily not many witli or match up with the existing zoning in that area.
. This proposed development will begin to erode the character of Nlayfield Village. The current
proposal is marketed assenior housing thougli, the proposed development includes two-story units
with a price tag of around $400,000 per unit. The housing units are not guaranteed for Mayfield . Village residents and many of the Mayfi eld Village residents may be .priced out of these homes.
Last week, we submitted signatures, not as. a formal petition; but as an indicator that. the community :
wishes to not have this area zoned as proposed. The developer does have the option to obtain
signatures to get the measure on the.ballot and certainly that is an option for hirri and sfiould be the
correcf route for this particular development where he puts the energy into going to get tliese
signatures if he wants to.
. As a- final. note, Mayfield Village maintains strong fanancial arid community. It is important that
Mayor and Council primarily. vote and appreciate and consider the voice of our Village. Those that
are here today are in opposition to this ordinance: Tlie developer is outside of this community and •
those that have spoken in favor of it are outside this: coiiumunity.
Council President Saponaro stated, Mary Ackley is a part of our community: She was in favor of it
and she does.live in here in the community. Just to clarify.
1VIr: DiFranco stated, on that point. 'The developer is ilot within tlus cominunify, nor is the.realtor that
stands to gaiil from the sale of these properties.
Council President Saponaro stated, I don't lcnow who that is but T know tli-at Mary is a realtoi. My
question is this. From your perspective, what would Council then agree to put on arid allow to go to
the electorate to the Board of Elections and not require, what type of project are we supposed to. say
then, okay, well tlus one. we are supposed to vote no on, but what project do we vote yes on?
Mr. DiPranco replied, }rott would certainly vote yes on projects that favor the Village and our Village
would want in these areas. What we are saying is t11at the Village residents don't waiit this in this,
