Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Counci] <br />Monday, January 28, 2019 <br />Page 20 , <br />• Reading of Resolution No. 2019-10, entitled, "A resolution of appreciation thanking <br />Police Chief Richard Edelman for over 30 years of dedication and service and <br />congratulating him on his retirement." Introduced by Mayor Bodnax and Council as a <br />Whole.. (Administration) <br />Council President Saponaro asked Chief Edelman to come up to the table. The Resolution was <br />read into the record. <br />WHEREAS, Chief Richard Edelman will be retiring as Police Chief on February 8, <br />2019, after serving Mayfield Village effectively and faithfully for over 30 years; <br />WHEREAS, Chief Richard Edelman joined the Mayfield Village Police Department on <br />a part-time basis in 1986 and was appointed as a full-time Patrol Officer in 1990. He served as <br />Detective and Detective Sergeant in 1997 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1999 where he <br />received investigative training and was recognized as an Expert Polygraphist. Chief Edehnan <br />was promoted to Lieutenant in 2003, served as Executive Lieutenant, and was promoted to Chief <br />of Police on June 6, 2011; <br />WMEREAS, Chief Edelman holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Services <br />with a Specialization in Criminal Justice from Thomas A. Edison State College in New Jersey <br />and is presently continuing his education by pursuing a Master's Degree in Public <br />Administration at Kent State University; <br />WHEIZEAS, during his tenure as Chief, in addition to overseeing the 24/7 operation of <br />the Police Department, Chief Edelman worked with SPAN to establish the Safe Passages <br />Community Outreach Program to combat opioid addiction in our community, oversaw the <br />addition of a second School Resource Officer in our District, introduced the emergency Your <br />911 system, and requested vital expenditures to protect the safety of the officers under this <br />command while ensuring the safety of this communiTy; <br />WHEREAS, Chief Edelman served as Past President of the Ohio Identification Officer's <br />Association, was on the Board of Directors of the Singing Angels, was a member of the Ohio <br />Crime Prevention Association and the Certified Fraud Examiners Association. Notably, Chief <br />Edelman served as the first bike-patrol officer in the Hillcrest area and has been a presenter at <br />many training seminars; <br />V6'HEREAS, Chief Edelman's career with Mayfield Village has been exemplary. He has <br />demonstrated his dedication, always going above and beyond, positively, professionally and <br />personally. Chief Edelman has received many commendations for his service, including but not <br />limited to, fi•om Progressive Insurance Company's Investigative Unit, w]ZO praised Chief <br />Edelman for lus service, stating that Chief Edelinan served with the highest degree of integrity <br />and confidentiality and was an asset to the Unit. <br />NOdV, THEREFORE, BE I'I' 1tESOLVED BY THE COUliTCIL OF AIAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT:
