ORDINANCE NO. 2020-22 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Bodnar and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE <br />REPEALING ORDINANCE 2020-12 AMENDING THE COMPENSATION OF THE <br />MAYOR, PRESIDENT OF COUNCIL AND MEMBERS OF COUNCIL AND <br />DIRECTING THE CUYAHOGA COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS TO REMOVE <br />THE ISSUE FROM THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOT <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 6 of the Village Charter provides that the Council shall <br />have the power to fix all compensation paid by the Municipality and the salary of its own members; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Article III, Section 6 of the Village Charter also requires that any increase in <br />compensation for the Village Council or the Mayor be passed by Ordinance and submitted to the <br />Village electorate for approval by majority vote; and <br />WHEREAS, on July 20, 2020, Village Council passed Ordinance 2020-12 amending the <br />compensation of the Mayor, President of Council and Members of Council and directing the Board <br />of Elections to place the issue on the ballot at the November 3, 2020 election; and <br />WHEREAS, after additional consideration and in light of the present health challenges <br />facing the Village and the Country, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the health, <br />safety and welfare of the Village residents to repeal Ordinance 2020-12 and direct the Board of <br />Elections to remove the issue from the ballot at the November 3, 2020 election. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of Mayfield Village, Cuyahoga <br />County, State of Ohio that: <br />SECTION 1. Ordinance 2020-12 passed by the Mayfield Village Council on July 20, <br />2020 is hereby repealed. <br />SECTION 2. This ordinance upon adoption by Council shall be promptly referred to the <br />Clerk of the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections in order to remove the issue of amending the <br />compensation of the Mayor, President of Council and Council Members from the ballot for the <br />electors of Mayfield Village, at the November 3, 2020 election. <br />14 <br />
