Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, March 18, 2019
Page 3
Joan Gottschling
President — Mayfield Township Historical Society
I am representing the Historical Society tonight and I am here to thank Mayor Bodnar and Council
for your continued support and your generous donation to the Society for our 2019 year. As you
know, we use this money to fund many of our projects and one of our biggest ones is the Yd graders
from Mayfield School and St. Francis come every Spring as part of their curriculum and they tour
our Bennett Vancuren house so some of our funding goes to help support that program. It's a part of
their curriculum that they do.
We are also focusing on the 200' Anniversary of the Mayfield Township. The Mayfield Township
is the 6 -square mile area which includes Gates Mills, Highland Heights, Mayfield Heights and
Mayfield Village. Mayfield Village is a part of the township and the Historical Society is supporting
this 200'' Anniversary this year. We are going to do several activities over the year at The Grove and
we also are going to make a time capsule asking residents of Mayfield Village to add to it. That will
be coming a little bit later on what we want them to do hoping that in 50 years we can open it up and
see what we were thinking today.
We have also many donated artifacts to the Historical House that we are trying to historically
preserve and there's a lot of cost involved in buying the proper paper and the material and things to
keep them so they'll last another 200 years. So we thank you for your donation for that.
We are also into community education. We are trying to communicate this Township history
interestingly to the community in various ways and newsletters and other media sources on Facebook
and such.
So I know that the Council and the members of the force here can all get out in the community and
talk to people in Mayfield Village. If you see anybody that's looking for something to do, we would
encourage you to talk to them and send them our way. If they would like to donate a few hours of
time during the month to our cause, we have a research library, we do inventory on our artifacts,
archiving them now. There's things in the yard to pick up, sticks, things like that or plant bulbs.
There's all kinds of things and we are really looking for help and I know people that get out in the
community and talk to the residents might find somebody that would be perfect for our fit. So, thank
you very much for your support. We really appreciate it.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you very much. And also, you may want to mention the
memorial brick program because I think that's important as well.
Ms. Gottschling stated, on our membership application which is $10 a year, we have our bottom
portion that is a memorial brick that can be purchased for $40. You can do up to three lines. We also
have a section of our memorial walkway just for Veterans too. So if you would like to memorialize
anybody or even somebody that's living, call the House. Thanks.
Council President Saponaro stated, thank you very much. Is there anyone else?
There was no further discussion.
