MINUTES OF THE INAUGURATION OF ELECTED
OFFICIALS AND SPECIAL/ORGANIZATIONAL
MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village Civic Hall — Mayfield Village Civic Center
Monday, January 6, 2020 — 7:00 p.m.
The Council of Mayfield Village met in Special Session for the purpose of holding the
Inauguration of Elected Officials and the Special/Organizational Meeting of Council on Monday,
January 6, 2020, at Mayfield Village Civic Hall. Mayor Bodnar called the meeting to order at
7:00 p.m.
Opening of Meeting/Comments by Mayor Brenda T. Bodnar
Good evening everyone. If we can all take a seat. I would like to call this Special Meeting of
Mayfield Village Council to order. Please join me in pledging allegiance to our flag.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
I would like to thank you all for coming out and joining with us tonight to celebrate this
Inauguration Ceremony. To all of our families and friends who are here to support, you are very
valuable to us. We are here tonight because you are here for us every day. We appreciate all
that you do. To our volunteers and constituents, I would have to say that you have been a huge
help. The political process keeps us on track and on pace and we are very grateful for your
service to Mayfield Village. The Gospel writer Luke reminds us that to whom much is given
much is required. In Mayfield Village we cannot deny that much has been given to us. And
tonight, as we embark on a new decade of governance here, we are duly admonished to serve
well and to give back to this great community.
We are joined tonight by two judges who give back to their communities in significant ways and
we are honored by their participation in our Inauguration.
Cuyahoga County Presiding Probate Judge Anthony Russo is a proud Mayfield Village resident
who will administer the oath of office to me in just a few minutes. Judge Russo has served the
Probate Court since 2009 and prior to that served on the Domestic Relations Court bench since
1993. Under Judge Russo's progressive leadership, the Probate Court has implemented
electronic filing, on-line viewing of Court documents, a resource center staffed by attorneys,
legal assistants' clinics, satellite offices for marriage licenses and many user-friendly services.
As the presiding judge, Judge Russo also appoints the members of the Cleveland Metroparks
Board of Commissioners and approves appointments to MetroHealth Systems' Board of
Trustees. Under Judge Russo's leadership, the Metroparks have acquired over 2000 additional
acres of parkland including 450 acres of lakefront parks. We are most grateful to have a
beautiful gem of the Emerald Necklace right here in our Village.
Lyndhurst Municipal Judge Dominic Coletta is here tonight to administer the oath of office to
newly -elected Council Representative Jennifer Jurcisek. Although Judge Coletta is a little newer
to the bench than Judge Russo, his term of office has been marked with fairness, transparency
and efficiency. In 2019, Judge Coletta issued a comprehensive State of the Court letter detailing
his plans to modernize the Court, showing a surplus for 2018 and discussing the implementation
