Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Page 2
There was none.
ROLL CALL: AYES: All Motion Carried
NAYS: None Minutes of January 6, 2020
Meeting Approved as Written
OPEN PORTION
— For Public Comment (5 -minute limit imposed by Chair)
Mayor Bodnar stated, Wendy Sattin is here. She is the Director of the Community Partnership
on Aging. At the last meeting, Councilwoman Mills asked that Ms. Sattin come and explain a
little bit about the CPA, especially for our newest members. Welcome Wendy.
Wendy Albin Sattin
Director of the Community Partnership on Aging
Thank you all. Good evening and Happy New Year. My name is Wendy Albin Sattin. In front
of you is a folder from CPA that has some materials about the organization in it for your review
later on and the budget that will be part of the discussion that the Council of Government, which
are the Mayors who are the governing board of the CPA approved at our last meeting in
December. You have that material in front of you as well.
The Community Partnership on Aging is your resource for support and services for residents
aged 60 or better to ensure that the residents thrive in this community for as long as possible. As
you probably heard, Cuyahoga County is experiencing a rise in the number of residents over the
age of 60 and a drop in those 18 years and younger. This shift is also seen in the communities
that comprise the CPA including Mayfield Village. We are working to prepare for the demands
that this open demographic would place on systems and infrastructure.
I wanted to kind of give you an idea of how we are working on that and how Mayfield Village
has been using the services of the CPA in 2019. First of all, we have several social workers on
staff. I have two that are dedicated to Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village and Highland Heights.
They respond to calls for assistance on a broad range of issues from transportation needs to food
and security, to benefits and much more. In 2019, our social workers worked with
approximately 500 residents. About 5% of those were Mayfield Village residents which
parallels the percentage of Mayfield Village residents to the overall number of residents in our
footprint. We have about 23,000 residents over the age of 60 in the CPA print and Mayfield
Village makes up about 6% of those. We provided over 7,700 congregate meals last year.
Approximately 3% of these were from Mayfield Village. Interestingly, the larger percentage of
Mayfield Village residents participated in our specialty meals. Twice a month we offer made
from scratch lunches that are available for a nominal charge. All tolled, we served 9,200 meals
last year.
