Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Tuesday, January 21, 2020
Page 3
As far as programming goes, we range everything from one-time events like our summer
symposium to every month kind of events like book clubs to every week like Tai Chi and Zumba
Gold. Once a month, we have here in Mayfield Village a Lunch `N Movie which is a very
popular event. We have had up to 100-120 people come for that.
We track our numbers in three categories, social and structural and health. Mayfield Village
residents make up 12% of the attendees in our social programs and a smaller amount in the
health and education ones. Transportation is a critical service offered by CPA. In 2019, we
provided 12,700 one-way trips. These help offset the threat of depression, isolation and
loneliness that people face when their car keys are taken away. I think a lot of us in this room
have had to deal with that issue with older relatives.
This year we hope to offset some of these costs by deploying Uber or Lyft specifically for an
older user. Other services we offer include Safe At Home which are minor modifications like
handrailings and grab bars at little to no cost to the resident and summer construction projects.
Many of these projects are Code violation repairs. We completed 28 projects last summer. 7%
or two of them were in Mayfield Village so it's right on target with Mayfield Village's portion.
In your folder is a flier about our Care Program which is a membership program for simple home
maintenance. For only $200 a year, members have access to five different home maintenance
services performed by volunteers. The program is designed to address minor home tasks that are
just getting too hard or too unsafe to do. Interestingly, we see a trend that many of our members
are women over the age of 80 and that's exactly who we want to keep safe and in their homes.
It's been a very interesting trending to watch who takes advantage of the Care Program.
Also in your packet is a menu of services. This kind of summarizes what I have been talking
about. Plus it has contact information. So if you have a constituent that needs assistance, there's
your information. You know where to send them. They can always call the main office but if
you would rather talk to a social worker, their contact information is in the menu.
We hope that if you have a dedicated newsletter that you use to keep in touch with your
constituents, you will also include information about the CPA. I believe that all of the Council
members are to be added to our e -newsletter blast if you are not already on it. You will be
receiving timely information to share with your constituents as time goes.
In closing, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the constant support the CPA receives from
Mayor Bodnar, members of this Council and the Mayfield Village staff which enables us to serve
the needs and address the wants of the older residents because of this very robust partnership that
we are honored to share.
Thank you all.
Mayor Bodnar stated, thank you Wendy.
Ms. Sattin asked, are there any questions?
