Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, February 15, 2021
Page 6
and the resident committee was UNWILLING to rescind and submit at a later date. The cost of
this election will be charged to the Village".
This special election comes at a time of inclement weather, and a surging COVID-19 epidemic,
that may be impacting some of our older Village residents. It also results in unnecessary costs. All
of this could have been avoided if the ballot issue had been postponed until the next general
election.
If at any point the Mayor or any of the council members are no longer living up to our high
expectations, we will retain our right to vote them out by voting "NO" on both proposed
amendments 1 and 2.
From many conversations, we know that a lot of Mayfield Village residents agree that both
amendments should be voted down. To make sure that happens, we just need to get them out to
vote.
Please reach out to your Village friends and neighbors to urge them to the get to get to the polls
on March 16th or to let them know the importance of voting by absentee. Details are on the
Mayfield Village website and in the winter edition of the Voice of the Village. Many thanks!
Mike Girbino
6815 Meadowood Drive
I wanted to take a minute to briefly express my opinion and concerns regarding the proposed
charter amendments that would limit the terms of our elected officials, and request my comments
be read at the next council meeting and entered into the meeting record.
While I believe term limits have their place and serve a purpose especially with regard to
representation at a federal level with regard to both the executive and legislative branches of
government, I also feel that such legislation imposed at a local level could actually prove counter-
productive. In short, term limits could easily rob this great community of those who give so much
of themselves and have been so committed in service to all of us by forcing those officials out of
office after their term has concluded. The electorate in this community therefore bears the
responsibility of ensuring their elected representatives perform their duties appropriately knowing
they wield the ability to elect new representation if necessary. This is a system which works, I
therefore can see no justifiable reason to move towards establishing term limits and abandoning
this system that has served our village so well for so many years.
Thank You,
