3
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, October 17, 2022
Page 10
into what happened; I don't know what facts people have or don't have, but again, I feel it was
time to make a change in the position. So again, I appreciate everybody's show of support. I did
listen to you and I understand what you're saying. But again, it was time to make a change.
Mayor Bodnar stated, I think it's okay to disclose who we heard it from. It was Mr. Saponaro at
the high school. It was not from any student. It was not from Dr. Barnes. It was not Principal
Egan. We did get a report from the school and that's what started it. If you have a problem with
that, maybe talk to the school. And I can tell you also that before a final decision was made, I
notified the school, I asked if there were any objections and there were not. That's how it
happened. It's just the way it happened. If you don't believe it, you can ask the school, but we
didn't generate this. The students didn't generate this. It came from the school. As far as I know
there is no dispute over the basic facts here, is that correct?
Chief Matias replied, yes.
Council President Schutt asked, are there any other comments from the public? Please come up
to the podium. If not, we are going to continue on with the meeting.
Ted Wetzel
6180 Hemingway Road
Mayfield Village
Why not just say that we will take all of this information under advisement and get back to you?
We are not asking you to defend the decision.
Juliano Galicz
5257 Nan Lin Drive
Willoughby, Ohio
Chief, you said you had facts? Are they being shared with us? Also, if Stuart did anything wrong,
why isn't there any investigation? If he did something wrong, then why isn't it being investigated?
Ms. Calta stated, if I can, just a couple points of order. Thank you all for being here. We have
regular Council meetings once a month and one of the standard parts of our agenda is a public
comments session which is what we are going through right now. And it's just that. It's public
comment. It is not a time to engage in a dialogue or a discussion. To your point on taking things
under advisement, I think there also needs another point of clarification. This is the Mayfield
Village Council meeting. The reassignment of this officer was at the direction of the Police Chief
and was an administrative action, not a legislative action. So, Council takes legislative action and
our Administration takes administrative actions. So just as a point of clarification, I appreciate
everyone's comments but I would like to just kind of focus it to have everyone understand that this
isn't a Councilmatic decision. It's not something that Council will be voting on. It's not something
that Council will be discussing. It is an administrative decision that was made by the Chief in
consultation with the rest of the administration along with the School Administration. It wasn't
