Minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council
Monday, December 16, 2024
Page 9
There were none.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you, Mr. Cappello.
Chief Matias (Police Department) — Thank you Council President. I just have two items. I had
a request to provide an update on the Wilson Mills entrance to the High School. As everybody
probably knows, a couple months ago we activated the traffic light for the new entrance drive to
Mayfield High School at Miner Road. When the project was conceived years ago, the idea was the
High School was going to close the western drive and they were going to remove that traffic light.
At the request of the District, once the new light was activated, we wanted to see how the traffic
flow would look and if removing the old light would be a positive or negative thing. We have been
watching the traffic light and traffic flow on Wilson Mills and at the High School for the past few
months. What we decided to do was leave that driveway open and leave the west traffic light active
and tweak the timing a little bit. Again, with the addition of the new drive off Miner Road, it has
improved the traffic flow on Wilson Mills and getting in and out of the High School at arrival and
dismissal times. So, for right now, the project is pretty much complete and we are going to continue
to monitor it and leave that drive open.
The second item I have, I just wanted to give a little shout out to our dispatch center. In order to
be an active dispatch center, there's State and County requirements and ordinances you have to
follow. A couple of weeks ago, the County came out and did an audit of the Mayfield Village
Dispatch Center. We were scored compliant in every category that they did the audit on including
an amazing 99% call answer percentage for answering 911 calls in less than 15 seconds. We have
a great group in there. Toni Wilson does a fantastic job with the dispatch center. At the time our
audit was complete, we were only one of three cities in Cuyahoga County that achieved their
compliance on every category. Just so everyone knows, we have a great group in that dispatch
center. They do a fantastic job. That's all I have. Thank you.
Council President Schutt stated, thank you. Any questions?
There were none.
Council President Schutt stated, I'll just make one comment. Circling back to the High School
driveway, I think it's a good idea to keep them both open. I have a freshman at the High School.
It is a nightmare when you are trying to drop off or pick up. Having an extra entrance or exit in
and out of the High School is good. Also, the building in the front for the trades, that traffic pattern,
there's no entrance from it from the east side of that building. It's only from the west. If you were
to close that, that would be a nightmare not having that west entrance in.
Chief Matias stated, actually our priority was Wilson Mills. What we found was there was no
negative impact on Wilson Mills by leaving everything open. It definitely does help that flow.
Luckily it's only complicated for about 15-20 minutes.
Council President Schutt stated, thanks for the updates. Any questions or comments?
