RESOLUTION N0. 88- 56 <br />INTRODUCED BY: MAYOR CARMEN & THE ENTIRE COUNCIL. <br />A RESOLUTION <br />TO MOBILIZE AAIffi2ICAN PUSLIC OPItIION <br />RELATIVE TO 'PHS 1,767 PERSONS STILL I,ISTSD AS <br />PRISONERS OF WAR ("POW'S") AND/OR <br />MISSING IN ACTION ("EffA'S") OF THE <br />VISTNAM WAR AND DECLARING AN F.MffiRGSNCY <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village recognizes that there are 1,767 POW'S and MIA'S <br />who remain missing and unaccounted for from the Vietnam War; and <br />WHEREAS, the communist country of North Vietnam agreed to provide a full <br />accounting of all POW'S and MIA'S fifteen (15) years ago this past January 26, <br />1988; and <br />WHEREAS, the communist country of North Vietnam has not fulfilled its <br />promise to provide a full accounting of all POW'S and MIA'S to this date, over <br />fi£teen (15) years later; and <br />WHEREAS, Mayfield Village wishes to send a clear signal to the communist <br />country of North Vietnam expressing its desire to obtain the release of all <br />information regarding these 1,767 POW'S and MIA'S prior to the United States <br />entering negotiations relative to any type of reconstructive or economic aid <br />to North Vietnam; and <br />WHEREAS, the signal sent by the Mayfield Village will hope£u11y mobilize <br />public opinion and be repeated in other surrounding communities; now, <br />therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Mayor and this Council, on behalf of the 1,767 POW'S and <br />MIA'S, join together to £ly the POW/MIA flag beneath the American Flag located <br />at Mayfield Village City Hall. <br />SHCTIOid 2. This Resolution shall be in effect from this day and remain <br />in effect until a£ull accounting of our American POW'S and MIA'S has been <br />made by the country of North Vietnam.
