ORDINANCE NO. 98- 29 <br />INTRODUCED BY: Mayor Rinker and Council as a Whole <br />AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE <br />AMENDING ARTICLE V, SECTION 6~ (F) AND <br />ADDING NEW SECTION (G) OF THE CHARTER <br />OF MAYFIELD VILLAGE REGARDING <br />ORIGINAL APPOINTMENTS TO POSITIONS WITHIN <br />THE CLASSIFIED CIVIL SERVICE <br />WHEREAS, Village Council, based upon the recommendation of the Director of <br />Law, deems it necessary and in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of all <br />Village residents to amend Article V, Section 6(F) and add new Section (G) of the Charter <br />of Mayfield Village regarding original appointments to the positions within the classified <br />civil service so as to be consistent with recent amendments to the State Civil Service <br />Code. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF MAYFIELD <br />VILLAGE, OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. That Article V, Section 6(F) and (G) is amended as follows: <br />SECTION 6. CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION. <br />(F) Power to Appoint arm-Pfaurate. <br />The Mayor, in making any original appointments to a position within <br />the classified service <br />shall be provided by the Civil Service Commission <br />with a list of tt~ee ten candidates scoring highest on the qualifying <br />examination who have achieved passing grades and the Mayor shall <br />make the appointment af-pr~ratiat°r from among those candidates. <br />If there would be less than three ten candidates who have achieved <br />a passing grade, the Mayor may appoint from the list provided to him <br />or may request a new list. <br />Power to Promote. <br />The Mayor in makina any promotions to a position in the classified <br />service shall be provided by the Civil Service Commission with a list <br />ofthree candidates scorina hiahest on the gualifyincLexamination who <br />have achieved gassing grades and. the Mayor shall make the <br />promotion from among those candidates: If there~•would be less than. <br />three candidateswho have achieved a passina.grade~= the Mayor may, <br />appoint fromthe list provided to- him or mav~reauest a new list:, <br />
