63
MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
March 21,1994
The Council of Mayfield Village met in regular session on Monday, March 21,1994, at
eight o'clock (8 p.m.) in the Council Chambers at the Village Hall. Council President
CD Joanne Cinco presided.
M ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Basile, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Ferrante, Mr. Fixler,
Q Mr. Flynn, and Mr. Stephens
z Absent: None
? Also Present Were: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Amendola, Mr. Brett, Mr. Cappello,
Mr. Diemert, Mr. Hovancsek (8:30 p.m.), Lt. Jay,
Chief Mohr, Mr. Samac, Chief Stevens, and Miss Heath
Mary Beth Brooks. Village Resident and employee of the Mayfield Regional Librar?:
reported that the library is one of the County's most valuable resources. Their system
serves 47 communities with its 29 branches. The County library system is the largest of
northern Ohio, and the 7th busiest in the United States. Mrs. Brooks said the library,
provides vital information to our children, to businesses, to senior citizens and to
computer users. Their system introduced library learning to over 5,000 children just last
year alone. The library needs Issue 23 on the May 3rd ballot. Because of the escalating
cost of new material, repair and maintenance to their building, the cost of keeping
computers up to date with current information, the library is seeking 4/10 of a mill.
The current one is 1 mill. That is an operating issue and that will expire at the end of
this year. It will cost an average homeowner about $2.27 a month. Issue 23 will allow
the library to continue to offer these special programs. Mrs. Brooks said they must also
pay to maintain their building. It will also make their building more accessible for
disabled patrons as required by the Americans With Disabilities Act. Mrs. Brooks said
their libraries are worth it to hundreds of thousands of users. Issue 23 will keep their
libraries up to date. After 10 years with no increase, it is tune to protect their libraries
for today, tomorrow, for our children, for our businesses, and for yourself. Mrs. Brooks
urged everyone to visit the Mayfield Regional Library or any branch to see what all that
library has to offer. She also encouraged everyone to come into the library to sign their
endorsement list.
Mrs. Cinco asked that a resolution of support (for the library issue) be put on the April
Caucus.
