Bratnblewood Lane, said she means no disrespect to George Phillips, but no one
seems to lrnow what this Community Relations job would be. One time it was to help with the
Pancake Breakfast, then no--he would teach safety forces how to better handle dispatch calls and
she wondered what the Police Chief's duties were. According to the meetings scheduled, anyone
who has ever been active as an Activities Chairman or Program Chairman lrnows, there aze all
types of speakers bureau files and this is something that home owner's associations should be
doing. Mrs. Basconi said she thinks this is a waste of taxpayer's money and is a patronage
position. It was her understanding this was supposed to be a few meetings or months and the last
pazagraph (of the flier) clearly tells you, he will be working this in 1993 and eventually it is a
permanent position. Mrs. Basconi asked that they reconsider, and said she would be glad to do the
job for the next yeaz free.
Mr. Hovancsek arrived.at this rime (8:03 p.m.)
Ron Gehardstein. Mayfield Heights, said he would like Dr. Regan to speak about what has
happened regarding the Mayfield Heights residents of Aldenham whose properties abut
Progressive Insurance.
Dr. Regan said in their early discussions with the highest representative at Progressive Insurance,
he promised them certain things and made attributions that they were being taken caze of. What
they had promised them, what happened in the paper, what they presented to City Council; at this
point they were promised a 40' buffer and that 10' of their trees would not be damaged. Hundreds
of trees (25-40') have been removed. Since the trees came down, they can't do anything about it
but they received a letter from Mr. Chokel dated 8/14 after the trees came down. Dr. Regan said
they must come to Council and quoted from the letter.
Mr. Rinker said Council has copies of the letter. He asked Chuck Chokel from Progressive
Insurance to be here this evening; he does not want to start a debate. We have every reason to
expect that Progressive is following through on the promises it made. Mr. Rinker said when we
agreed to add a fifth story, we were told by you that all bets were off and the lawsuit was filed.
