MINZJTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
March 17, 1997
The Council of Mayfield Village met inxegular session on Monday, March 17, 1997, at 8:07 p.m.
in the Mayfield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President Pro Tem Joanne
Cinco presided.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mr. Busa, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Marquardt and
Dr. Paxker
Absent: Mr. Ferrante and Mr. Fixler
Al"so Present: Mr. Brett,lVlr. Cappeilo, Mr. Hanculak, Mr. Metzung, Chief Mohr,
Mfr. Samac, Chief Stevens and Miss Heath
OPEN PORTION
Sandy Batcheller 6784 Wilson Mills Road Mayfield Villaae, expressed thanks to Mayor Rinker
for proposing Resolution No. 97-06 and asked Council to approve the resolution which urges the
School Board members to delay making a decision on selecting a new superintendent. By asking
these Board members to delay making a decision, they will allow the members of the community
to become familiar withthe current situation in the school district and have input on important
decisions. It also urges the school board to allow the board that will be elected in 1997 to hire the
new superintendent. Three positions will be up for election and their decision may not reflect
those of the current residents and voters in Mayfield Village. The qualities of the school and the
person leading the school are a direct reflection of the community the school serves. It is
imperative that the citizens of this community have input into this decision not only with the
intention to maintain quality schools and the education of our children but also to maintain the
value of our property as well as our quality of life.
Lindell Riddle 1052 S O M Center Road Mavfield Heights, said he lives in the third house into
Mayfield Heights out of Mayfield Village. Lookirig into this Resolution No. 97-06, he has the
other opinion. The resolution would call_on the school board to delay any decision on the recent
controversy until after the November election. But that is 8 months away-a lot can happen in
the next 8 months. What you would be saying if you pass this resolution is calling upon the
school board to do absolutely nothing because maybe the make-up of the board could change. But
those board members elected this November would not even take office until January and that is
10 months away. So, by passing this resolution you would be-telling the board to do nothing for
nearly a year. I think we all know that our kids deserve better than that. Have you thought about
this: just as there are 3 seats up for grabs on the school board in November, 3 of your seats are
going to be up as well. Should this council also do nothing about important issues until next
year? Should you put offhiring a new service director_-should you take no action on the golf
course because maybe the configuration of this council could change after the November election.
Consider this-has the school board ever passed a resolution telling this council what to do on
