MINUTF-S OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL
Mayfield Village
February 21, 2005
The Council of Mayfield Village met in regular session on Monday, February 21, 2005, at
8:09 p.m. in the Mayf`ield Village Senior Center/Community Room. Council President
Buckholtz called the meeting to order.
ROLL CALL: Present: Mr. Buckholtz, Mrs. Cinco, Mr. Marquardt,
Mrs. Mills, Dr. Stephan Parker and Mr. Saponaro
Absent: Mr. Marrie & Chief Mohr (although he was at Finance Mtg.)
Also Present: Mayor Rinker, Mr. Brett, Mr. Chapman, Chief Dearden,
Mr. Hanculak, Mr. Marrelli, Mr. Metzung, Mr. Thomas
and Mrs. Roman
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was given.
OPEN POR'I'ION 5-minute limit imposed by Chair. Those who wish to speak must first state their name and address.
Shirlev Jay, 6121 Ridgeburv, said I have questions about NOPEC. I had questioned Joe Saponaro
and he didn't know and suggested I bring it up. My question is, is anythiilg happening with NOPEC
and the gas supplier? We were canceled and all pushed back to East Ohio Gas in September. I just
received a letter on Saturday from a Veteran's Company that is offering me a chance to sign up with
them but it has to be done by March 11 or be one of the first 1,500. Their rates are better than East
Ohio Gas but I was wondering what happened with NOPEC. Should I take this or wait?
Mrs. Roman said we have not heard anything new from NOPEC.
Mayor Rinker said we can't give you a satisfactory answer because I don't tlunk NOPEC has ever
lived up to anyone's expectations. The rates are so variable a11 around the area even within the Village.
The only thing that really seems to be impacted has been the actual charge for the commodity itself.
Most of the costs are in the overall infrastructure, administration of it. I challenge anyone, even Bobby
Fisher, to understand the moves that they make in NOPEC. It is not a satisfactory answer but we've
had very little feedback from the organization in some time.
Mrs. Jay said I thought they were in the process of doing something but I didn't know if they had.
Mayor Rinker said that rings a bell but candidly we've had virtually no feedback. I apologize that it
hasn't been very successful.
Mrs. Jay asked, have you ever heard of that firm?
Mayor Rinker said no; I have not.
