?
C

BOARD OF.BiJILDING CODE APPEALS JANUARY 22, 1987 PAGE 3
address of the industry organization and a letter will.be sent to
them requesting additional information.
A short-recess was called.at this time.
During the recess Mr. Dumbrowski and the Board discussed putting up a
mock installation (an actual dish, but not hooked up) on the roof of
the Halleen Automobile building where it was originally requested.
The members believe that this location might be far less noticeable
than any location on the truck lot. Mr.. Dumbrowski agreed, but stated
that he could not get authorization for the funds for an engineering
study. It was explained to him that he would not actually need such
a study, and could get information on the bar joists froin a steel
company. It was decided that tlie dish would be place:d on the roof
and the members:will inspect it, and all adjacent neighbor would be
notified for the next meeting to discuss both locations. R. Burke
moved that this Board authorizes Future Vision to place an antenna,
without hooking.it up, on the roof of the car lot building as origi-
nally requested in November to determine the visibility of the dish
and aIl adjaeent residents are to be notified for the next meeting on
February 26, 1987, seconded by J. Kazak, and unanimously approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS: (resumed at.this point)
1) P.reseritation of information regarding Carlon Company's Electrical
Non-Metalic Tubing.
Mr. B. Goetz, of Miller.Curtis Company who represents Carlon.Company
who is the worlds largest mariufactu i res of non-metallic condu.it raceway
fittings, explained that this tubing .(ENT.) has had app.roximately 3 years
of engineering design, and was adopted into the National Electrical
Code in 1984 (Article 331) with res"trictions. Since the steel conduit
manufacturers are res.isting its use?on the b asis that the produte is
not safe; the Carlon Company has spent millions of dollars testing
the product to prove that it is safe. In the 1987 National Electrical
Code has removed most of the previous..,restrictions despite the appeals
that were filed. He went on to describe the properties of this mater-
ial and submitted information for the Board to study. He advised that
there are only 3 cities in the.state which now, requires metalic conduit
for commercial work and one city.wh"ch require metalic condiut for
both commercial and residential us&. Two of these cities are now in
the process of reviewing these code?s. Since this materYal is far Iess
expensive than metal.tubing, there would be' a significant savings by
using it;_ .
V. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adj ourned at 10 : 10 p.. m.
J. Kazak, Chairman B. Oring, Clerk of Commissions
