' • >
BOARD OF BUILDING CODE APPEALS AUGUST 27, 1987 PAGE 3
2) Space Age Tndustrial Design, Bradley Road, southwest of 31152 Bradley Road
Permanent Parcel Numbers 233-06-10 and 233-06-016.
Request permission to use a scored face block on building in Limited
Industrial Area. Original proposal for a split face block was approved
by Planning Commission on February 24, 1987 and by Council March 3, 1987.
Chairman Kazak administered the oath to ZZr. Hardy, owner, Mr. Bain,
contractor, and neighbors, Mr, and PZrs. Kline and Mrs. Gibbon. Mr. Bain
presented samples of the materials and explained that the front office
portion of the building is to be "old" brick, and the rear shop portion
was originally approved to be a split face block which is an imitation
brick and does not match. They are now requesting to use a Svec scored
b lock, grooved to look like 8 by 8 inch squares.. Blocks are to be
painted with a through seal and then covered with an acrylic latex paint.
The color will be a toffee color to match the brick. They are also re-
questing permission to use a plain block on the rear of the building
where they are planning to construct an addition, explaining that it
too would be sealed with the two coat process. Mr. Hardy explained
that the rear wall was facing the wood and if he expands he would not
go past the creek and there would be a natural buffer. Board has a
problem with the.plain block on the rear wall since it backs up to
residential property. Councilman Tallon and the.Board agree that using
the plain block would be setting a precedent. It was determined that
the difference between the scored block and the plain b lock on the
rear wall would only be $360.00. Mr. Hardy pointed out that if the
City makes it cost prohibitive to build in the Industrial District
in North Olmsted other businesses may not be willing to build since
they now have easy access to other communities with the completion of
1480. Mr. Kline agrees that the scored block would look better than
the split face block with the brick. J. Kazak moved to approve the
Space Age request to use the grooved or scored block using the two
coat system (thorough seal and acrylic paint) to match the brick in a
toffee color as per plans submitted tonight, seconded by B. Schulz,
and unanimously approved.
III. COMMLTNICATIONS: (heard at this point)
In reference to the ordinance regulating'satellite dishes, Mr. Schulz
received a letter from the Mr. Bohlmann, Chairman of the Intra-Governmental
Relations and Legislation Committee explaining that Paragraph "B" of the
ordinance allowing and regulating roof top installations on commerical
buildings has been deleted. The Board is concerned about this since their
extensive study had indicated.that these installations were necessary.
The ordinance will be submitted to committee for study and Councilman
Tallon will see to it that the members of the Board are notified so that
they may attend and express their views.
V. OLD BUSINESS:
No items.
VI. NEW BUSINESS:
Building Commissioner Conway asked if the Board would consider two items.
