BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS MAR.CH 4, 1987 PAGE 2
they are a camping family and they need the space for their recreational
vehicle, their camping equipment, 2 family cars, and a classic car. They
need the 10 foot door for the R.V. and they prefer the appearance of the
gable roof design. Mr. Mortus has no objection to the proposal. Mr.
Remmel stated that the Board does not want to do anything that would en-
courage a commercial use on Columbia Road and such a garage could be
converted by a subsequent owner. Mr. Bugala believes that the square
footage of the garage is unreasonable. Mrs. Strauss explained that the
garage was to be two cars deep and only two cars wide, and she believes
that the City would like to have all recreational vehicles under cover.
They plan to remove the existing shed on the property. It was suggested
that they add a carport behind the garage for the recreational vehicle. r_
Mr. Bugala does not believe that the Board should be concerned with housing ;--
a recreational vehicle. After some discussion the Mr. and Mrs. Strauss --
agreed to continue the request until the next meeting. It was suggested . '
that they look at a garage that was approved on Walter Road. Mr. Strauss
would like 24 feet across the front and 32 feet deep to accommodate the
recreational vehicle. The Board stated that a three car garage might be
acceptable. Case continued.
2. Robert Craig (for Scottish Inns), property located on the southeast corner
of Brookpark and Clague Roads.
Request for variance (1133.13). Request temporary variance to locate
pole sign on a vacant parcel which is not the location of the business.
Violation of Ord. 62-33, Section 1221.02. Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board. The oath
was administered to Mr. Gandi, owner, and T. Snelzer, attorney for Scottish
Inns, Inc., who presented a letter stating that he had granted permission
for the sign and had agreed to their representing him at this meeting.
Mr. Snelzer explained that the Inn is located at 22115 Brookpark Road,
Fairview Park, and tfiey are req_uesting that the sign be placed at this
location during the reconstr•uction of the Br•ookpark Rocky River Bridge. The motel is located west of the bridge construction, however, the detour
signs divert traffic exiting the freeway away from the Inn. This will be
a one-sided., illuminated 5 foot by 8 foot sign. The Board agreed that they
did have a hardship, but any varianee would only be granted for the time
the bridge is Lmder construetion. The lease agreement is only for 3 years
and bridge should be completed in 212 to 3 years. R. Gomersall moved to
grant the request for a variance to Robert Craig to locate a pole sign on
a vacant parcel on the southeast comer of Brookpark and Clague Roads with
the stipulation that the sign must be removed within 30 days after the
opening of the Brookpark Rocky River Br'idge, and if not so removed, that
the City can remove it at the cost of the owner, seconded by R. Bugala,
and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
3. Bob Evans Lot Split, 25853 Lorain Rd.
Request for variance (1133.13). Request variance to subdivide permanent
parcel number 236-2-2 into two parcels one of which will have no frontage
(fronts on Brookpark Road but will have no access). Violation of Ord. 62-33,
Section .1174.07. (Referred by Planning Commission February 10, 1987).
Request was withdrawn by the developer.
