.
A
BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS JANUARY 7, 1987 PAGE 3
who explained that he is requesting an interpretation of Section I221.04-A1
which states "The area of the faces visible from a public way of all per-
manent exterior signs,..." He is contending that the south elevation of
the building is not visible from a public way since it faces the strip shop-
ping center and should not be included in the total sign area. He is not
asking for a variance, merely how to figure the sign area allowed in this
particular case. He pointed out that the signs inside the mall (not visible
from a public way) do not have to meet the frontage requirement of the code.
He also wants clarification that he can place signs on all four side of the
building. Building Commissioner Spino produced a letter from Assistant Law
Director Dubelko which states in part "'.m.signage in a general retail business
distriet is essentially determined by the amount of building frontage. The
building in q.uestion apnears to have two store fronts..." Mr. Carlisle was
not advised of this determination. Board has no problem with placing signs
on all four sides of the building, but believes that signage on the south
side should conform to sign area requirements. B. Grace moved that the
Board rules that the signs on the strand side of the building (which is the
south side of the b uilding) is considered to be part of the total signage
area as as allowed by the current codes that are not. in effect and this
ruling pertains only to this particular case, seconded.by C. Remmel, and
unanimously approved.
B. Grace moved that the Board agrees that ttie Browns are going to win on
Sunday, seeonded by R. Gomersall. Roll eall on motion Grace, Gomersall,
Bugala, and Remmel, Yes. Mr. Helon, No. Motion passed.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
C. Remmel, Chairman B.
