CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 2, 1987
Chairman Remmel called the meeting to order at 7:-")5 p.m.
Present: R. Bugala, R. Gomersall, B. Grace, J. Helon, and C. Remmel
- Also Present: Law Director M. Gareau, Building Commissioner Conway, and
Clerk of Commissions B. Oring.
R. Bugala moved to accept the minutes of July 1, 1987 as written, seconded
by R. Gomersall, and unanimouslg approved.
Kalman and Mary Melegh, 28010 Wisteria Dr.
Request for variance (1133.13). Request 1 foot height variance for fence.
Violation of Ord. 62-33, Section 1151.04-H.(Continued from July 1, 1987).
Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mrs. -Melegh. Board has reviewed the variance granted to her
neighbor for a dog run located adjacent.to her property line. Mr. Bugala
believes that a 6 foot fence just the length of the dog run is sufficient,
with the balance of the fence 5 feet. Mrs. Melegh would like 2 more sections,
or 32 feet of 6 foot fence. Board agreed that the 16 feet would obscure
the dog run. C. Remmel moved to grant a 6 foot privacy fence, 16 feet in
length which is to be placed on the property line against the dog run, seconded
by R. Bugala, and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
1. Robert J. Burns, 23478 Stoneybrook Dr.
Request for variance (1133.13). Request 5 foot front set back variance for
front porch addition. Violation of Ord. 62-33, Section 1159.01.
Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr, and T4rs. Burns who presented revised plans which show
the garage extended out, as well as the porch and vestibule area. Mr. Bugala
believes that this encroachment into the front set b ack interferes with the
site line. Mrs. Burns explained that the front door opens into their landing
and has been a safety problem. This would also give them a front porch and
most of the homes in the neighborhood have front porches. Mr. Remmel stated
that the Board has never granted a variance to the front set back except for
older homes. Mr. Grace thinks that the revised plan would give a continous
front line to the home. R. Bugala moved to grant the request 5 foot front
set back variance for the front porch addition for Robert J. Burns at 23478
Stoneybrook Dr., seconded by J. Helon. Roll call on motion: Bugala, Helon,
and Remmel, no. Grace and Gomersall, yes. Variance denied.
2. Tom Riley, 24880 Chase Dr.
Request for variance (1133.13). Request 5 foot variance for distance between
addition ancl garage. Violation of Ord. 62-33, Section 1151.04-C (3 foot
variance granted July 1, 1987).
Chairman Remme1 called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Riley and J. Spanski, contractor, who explained that an
error had been made by the architect on the previous request which was apvroved
by the Board. R. Gomersall moved to grant the request for a 5 foot variance
for the distance between the addition and garage for Tom Riley, 24880 Chase Dr,
seconded by B. Grace, and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
