ARCHITECTURAL BOARD OF REVIEW JANUARY 20, 1988
PAGE 3
Mr. Davison and Mr. Certo, architects, oresented plans for the two story
office building and retail units on either side with an existing office
building which is to be renovated to conform to the new structure. The
forester had suggested eliminating 2 parking spaces in front of the
existing building and 9 next to it in order to save some large trees on
the property. This suggestion will be considered, but would reauire a
variance. Mr. Davison stated that they have a revised nlan which in-
cludes the handicapped space but it is not with them. Mr. Zergott
suggested adding some nlantings on the north west corner of the narking
lot and also that island areas in parking lot be mulch or ground cover,
not grass as shown on rendering. T1rs. Case suggested raising these
islands and planting flowers, possibly marigolds,. Roof ton equipment
will be screened by the mansard. Walls will be jewel blend Belden Brick
with dryvit-like sign nanel above windows in an off white, windows will
be solar bronze with dark bronze .frames.and mansard roof will be leaf
green st.anding seammetal. There will be a screened, recessed area
behind units for storage of trash as well as two dumpster locations
screened with board on board fences. A 6 feet board on board fence is
planned for tlie rear oroperty line with plantings behind it. Building
Commissioner Conway advised that landscaped buffer in front set back
must be 7 feet and that revised plans showing this and the handicapped
space must be submitted to Planning Commission. Pole sign will be on
a brick base with bronze pole and frame and.will be set back the
required 3 feet fzom right of way. B.. Zergott moved to accept the plans
as submitted, seconded by M. Case, and unanimously approved.
4) L:.?yingston''s (formerly Eddie's), Great Northern Shopping Center
Pronosal to alter entrance in rear of Great Northern Plaza.
Heard by Planning Commission Januar_y 12, 1988.
Mr. Montgomery, owner, and Mr. Dixon, ar.chitect, presented revised plans
exulaining that the present rear service entrance will be renovated
to be the main entrance. They will be constructing a facade in a dryvit-
like material with a wafer board backing_, in a buff color with tan trim
and brown columms (the_y will be using a Benjamin Moor paint, but will have
to supnly the number later); a dark green axoning with a beige stripes
will be installed but the planning Commission has stipulated that no
light can show throuQh it. Mrs. Case believed, that since this area is
so dark, the illuminated canop_y would be a nice touch. There will be
some decorative light fixtures on the walls and additional up-lights
will.be placed in the planter boxes. The sign shown on the plan is
red neon letters to be installed on wall above canopy, however, this
could be changed to block type letters if the Biskind Development Company
decides they must conform to the Plaza South signs. B. Zergott moved to
approve the plans as accepted, seconded by M. Case, and unanimously
apnroved,
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
M.
