Schul.tzz representing Hennie Homes, K. Anglin, T. Bennet, and <br />.T. Christiano, a11 representing Bennet Builders, Mr. Wilke advised that <br />tlie cl.ass "B" chimneys axe approved and accepted by F'ederal, State;. and <br />most local muniea:palties and have a11 ready been installed in their <br />model homes in Nozth Ol.msted, They have been advised by local heating <br />contra.etors that there is no other municipality in the area that does not <br />a.ccept the class "B" chimney., ZZrq Conway clarified that class "B" is a <br />ventx not a chimney. Mr: Schultz explained that when they installed a <br />fireplace they always used a Tnasonry chiznneyp the class "B" flue would be <br />only for the furnace and hot water tank, He further explained that the <br />flue pipe was installed in a metal chase which is separated from combus- <br />tible znaterials, Mr.. Bennet explained that they, tooW were effected by <br />this requirement since their homes were priced with the class "B" flue, <br />and this restriction would cost the homeowner $600.00 Tnore than was <br />quoted, It was also pointed out that East Ohio Gass had no problem with <br />the class "B" flue: Tlx. Conway pointed out that since 1975 there has been <br />a tremendous change in heating appliances and the reduction of the temper- <br />atures of the venting gases. Board agreed that the cl.ass "B" flue was <br />acceptable. Chairman Kazak clarifi.ed that their approval would not be <br />just for the sublot mentioned in the appeal, but would be for all homes <br />being built and uritil that time when'the Board reviews the Building Codes <br />in 1989 when they zaill address this issue on a permanent basis. R. Burke <br />moved tha.t it is this Board's determination that a class "A" flue is not <br />required for appliance venting, seconded by D.
