BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS AUGUST 3, 1988 PAGE 5
5. Kronheims Furniture Store, 26088 Country Club Blvd:
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 73.13 square foot variance for
total sign area to place sign on Plaza North Arcade canopy. Violation of
Ord. 87-93, Section 1163.06(d).
Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
was administered to G. Papandreas, Biskind Development Comnany and B. Dumbradski,
sign contractor. It was clarified that the sign is to be over the arcade area
(where Marshalls' sign is located) facing Brookpark Road, not on the actual
building. Mr. Bugala and Mr. Gomersall are concerned that all the tenants in
Plaza South Would want signs in that area. Mr. Papandras beleived that this
sign would provide exposure for all the tenants in Plaza South, explaining
that they have agreements with other tenants as far as what signage is allowed.
Mr. Bugala stated that Ma.rshalls put up their sign without a variance, so if
Kronheim's reduces their signage on the building, they would not need.a vari-
ance for this sign. Mr. Remmel stated that it is necessary that the merchants.
in this area have si.gnage, it-is a commerieal.area, and the signs are set-back
from the street. T1r. Bugala questioned who authorized all the temporary sign-
age that is on the property. Mr. Papandreas stated that if these temporary
signs violate any City regulations, they will remove them. Building Commissioner
Conway advised that the Marshalls sign was installed prior to his coming to
the City, but if they had the square footage available.th.ey would be allowed
to install a sign at this location since this is all one parcel of land. He
further advised that he will be taking the sign to the Architectural Board.of
Review and the Planning Commission. R. Grace moved to grant the request for
a 73.13 square foot variance for total sign area to place sign on the North
Plaza Arcade canopy, seconded by C. Remmel. Roll call on.motion: Grace, .
Remmel, Gomersall, and Helon, yes. Mr. Bugala, no. Motion carried. Variance
oranted.
6. Cross Roads Oldsmobile, Inc., 27500 Lorain Road
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 20 foot height variance for flag pole.
Violation of Ord. 87-93, Section 1139.03.
Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Rankin, contractor, and Mr. Tolliver, representin, Cross
Roads. Mr. Bugala believes this is commercialization and desecration of the
flag. Mr. 12emmel stated that certain restrictions would have to be stipulated
if a variance is granted. Mr. Tolliver stated.that only the American flag or
the State of Ohio flag would be displayed. R. Gomersall moved to grant the
request for a 20 foot height variance for a flag pole with, the condition that
it will be used for the sole purpose of displaying the American flag and/or
the State of Ohio flag for Cross Roads Oldsmobile, Inc., 27500 Lorain Road,
seconded by J. Helon. Roll call on motion: Gomersall, Helon,.Remmel; and
Grace, yes. Mr. Bugala, no: Motion carried. Variance granted.
7. Louis R.
