Hills Department Store, 26666 Brookpark Road Ext. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance for pole sign located off <br />the business site and location variance for pole sign (1 foot 7 inch encroach- <br />ment into setback); request 41.9 square foot variance for total sign area. <br />Request variance to have 4 ground signs on property. Note variances required <br />to replace existing Gold Circle signs. Violation of Ord. 87-93, Section <br />1163.06(b)4, (f)4, (b)2, and (d). <br />Chairman Remmel called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to B. Zwierzynski, representing Hills, and C. Storer and J. Mercer, <br />First Neon Sign Company, who explained that the four ground signs were actually•` <br />enter/exit signs, and that they are merely replacing the existing Gold Circle <br />signs, they are not adding signs. Building Commissioner Conway clarified that <br />the existing signs do not conform to code and that a variance is needed to <br />replace them. Mr. Bugala pointed out that the pole sign is off the property, <br />it is on Lorain Road, and stated that he had objected to the Gold Circle signs <br />originally. R. Gomersall.moved to grant the variance for the pole sign located <br />off the business site and a location variance for the pole sign (1 foot 7 inch <br />encroachment into setback); and to grant the 41.9 square foot variance for <br />total sign area, and also to grant a variance for the four ground signs on the <br />property all of which are to replace the present Gold Circle signs to Hills <br />Department Store, 26666 Brookpark Road Ext., seconded by J. Helon. Roll call <br />on motion: Gomersall, Helon, Grace, and Remmel, yes. Mr. Bugala, no. Motion <br />carried. Viariances granted. <br />Chairman Remmel advised the Board that he will be resigning from the Board as. <br />of December lst. .He will notify the Mayor and Council tomorrow morning. He <br />stated that serving on the Board is taking too much time away from his business, <br />especially because of the number of items being heard recently. He suggested <br />that the Mayor or Council should advise_ any prospective member that it is <br />necessary to look at all properties where variances are being requested. <br />Mr. Bugala is vice-chairman and can take over as chairman. <br />The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 p.m. " <br /> <br />is C.
