Mr. Betts
stated that even if a rezoning would be approved,.he would like to clarify
for the record that the plan as presented is not approved, that the Commission
would question the need for a11 22 parking spaces all the way uu to Silverdale,
and tfiere would be much concern about what would actually be done there.
Mr, Thomas aga.in advised tliat it would only take one negative vote to dis-
approve this.proposal and that if the proposal were approved,'it would go
on to the BZA Gommittee of Council. M. Betts moved that the rezoning re-
quest o.f Mr. Georgalis be approved as submitted and forwarded to the BZD
wi,th the understanding that representatives of Mr. Georgalis will be working
with t.he, City's Law Department in reference to a deed restriction to prevent
any construction on the 47 foot parcel(outside of the construction of buffers)
as stated in this request and w.ith the recommendations of the Law Department
tha.t the pa:rcels be assembled, seconded by R. Bierman, and unanimously
a,pproved, Mr. Thomas advised that the BZD meeting would be riarch 15th at
7:00 p,m,
2) Rezoning R.equest (Grea.t Northern Properties Company),
The proposal is to rezone permanent parcel nos. ?36-18--79 236-18-8, 236-18-11,
and 236-18-15 located on the west side of Columbia Road between Country
Club Blvd. and I-480 for a distance of approximately 275 feet west from
the center line of Columbia Road, from the existing zone of "A" Residence,
Single to a zoning of Mixed Use which abuts on the west. (Tabled at the
meeting of February 13, 1990)e
Cha_irman Tfioma.s explained that some memtiers had discussed the feasibility
of this proposal with Mr. Hill, the City Planner, and it was generally
agreed that rezoning this portion to conform with the adjacent zoning could
make sense, liut the impact of such a rezoning on the adjacent areas across
the street and south of I-480 must be studied, along with the possibility
of rezoning the entire area, and if this is proposed, it must be determined
tq. which category: Mixed Use or1vIu1ti-Family. It was agreed that the char-
acter of this area had changed since the construction of I-480. It was
further decided that any decision on this should be delayed in order that
the entire Commission along with some members of other.committe:es could
meet with Mr. Hill. This meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m. prior to
the next Planning Commission meeting on March 13th. Mr. Hill also believed
that the previously discussed, proposed exit from I-480 onto Columbia Road
at this point was a good possibility., would cut through residentially:zoned
property;and would definitely have an impact on the area, Mr. Thomas pre-
sented maps of the area showirig proposed zoning and the area of the exit
ramp and requested that copies be made for those attending the meeting as
well as some additional which should be available in the Engineering De-
partment for the residents to see. Mr. Betts stated that this request is
logical considering that the rest of the property is Plixed Use and pointed
out that Mr. Burns, a former chairman, had pin pointed this area for study
several.years age. He is questioning why rezoning this portion should be
delayed in order to study the adjacent area. He would like to know how the
neighbors feel about the area considering the proposed exit ramp. Neighbors,
Mr. and Mrs. Tachach and Mr. Lamneck, advised that they are. sti11 totally
