ROLL CALL: <br />Chairwoman Case called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br />Present: M. Case, T. Gallagher, and Y. Sohn <br />Absent: B. Zergott <br />Also Present: Building Commissioner Conway and Clerk of Commissions Oring <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />Mrs. Case pointed out that the minutes of November 22, 1989 had not been <br />approved at the special meeting in December. T. Gallagher moved to approve <br />the minutes of November 22, 1989 as presented, second,ed by M. Case, and <br />unanimously approved. <br />T. Gallagher moved to approve the minutes of December 6, 1989 as submitted, <br />seconded by M. Case, and unanimously approved. ' <br />III. SIGNS: <br />Heard with building plans. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />No items. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />1) Valvoline Instant Oil Change, 24866 Lorain Road <br />Revised plans to construct building (originally approved by Planning <br />Commission on July 26, 1988)a Heard by Architectural Review Board.on <br />Juiy Zo, 1988) , <br />Referred by Planning Commission on January 9, 1990. <br />Mr. Bradshaw, representing Valvoline, explained that the original proposal <br />had been approved, but there had been difficulty with purchasing the <br />property. Now that the property has been purchased, they are requesting <br />approval on a smaller building and are asking,that the previous condition <br />that the building be white be rescinded. He presented a photograph of one <br />of their typical buildings with a light gray split face block and.explained <br />that this is not a standard gray split face, it is a special,lighter gray. <br />Mr. Gallagher questionedtlie type of lighting, pointing out that high sodium <br />light will make the building appear even darker. Mr. Bradshaw stated that <br />he believed that the lights are mercury vapor. Members agreed that this <br />light gray- would be acceptable as long as they used a clear white light. <br />Mr. Gallagher noted that many businesses start out with a mercury vapor, <br />but after it proved to be expensive, they change to the yellow high pressure <br />sodium. Building Commissioner Conway clarified that the red sign band <br />would be opaque as previously stated, and would not be interanlly illumin- <br />ated. Mr. Gallagher clarified that they were not restricted only to mercury <br />vapor light, that any of the clear white light systems such as metal hallite
