but he is building this home for his own use. He further explained that the
drawings presented were not architectural drawings. Mr. Spop-rke suggested
that they put a hip roof on the front. Neighbors are still concerned about the
drainage. Again, Mr. Conway advised that the Engineering Department will not
allow any one to drain water onto an adjoining property. J. Kazak move to
approve the request as presented, seconded by J. Konold, and unanimously
approved.
V. OLD BUSINESS:
Beverly and Eugene Frieg, 5799 Porter Road.
Rehearing of request of stay of Demolition Order for property at the
above address. Hearing required Chapter 1131o05(a).
(Request originally heard on August 23, 1990)0
Chairman Burk administered the oath to Mr. and Mrs. Frieg and neighbors, Mrs.
Granfors and Mr. Smith. Mr. Burk advised that he had called Mr: Mural,. the
contractor who had presented estimates, and requested that he be at the
meeting, but he was not present. Mr. and Mrs. Frieg stated that they had
another estimate from Mural, and another contractor, a Mr. Potts had been out
but did not submit an estimate. They maintain that they have a,problem
getting contractors to give estimates. ?Kr. Burk read the, newest estimate from
Mural and Sons (included in file), for a total of .$10,220. 00. Mr. Konold does
not believe that this estimate would cover all that needed to be done.. Mr.
Frieg explained that they had intended to remove the mural stone and re- side
the ho•s.se before this problem came up. Mr. Burk pointed out that a condition
of the extension was that they meet with the City even though they were having
difficulty getting a contractor. Building Commissioner Conway advised that.
since this type of work is a speciality, the City does not deal with these
contractors frequently. Mr. Konold believes that someone from the City should
be present when a contractor comes out. Mr. Kazak suggested that they contract
a fire restoration company since they do deal in that kind of work. Mr.
Conway mentioned.two contractors who are currently working at the high school.
Mr. Schulz believes that the inspectors estimate of $30,000.00 was far more
accurate than the one submitted. Mr. Conway agreed that he send an inspeetor
out to meet with a contractor, but if it were not during normal working, he
would need 24 hour notice. In response to Mr. Konold's question, Mr. Frieg.
advised that financially he could proceed if the cost of the-work was in the
neighborhood of $15,000.00 to $20,000.00. Mr. Burk advised the Friegs that the.
Board would be meeting on the 15th of November at which time they should have
the estimates. Mr. Conway will give them a few names of contractors who do
fi:re restoration work. J. Konold moved to continu.e the request of Beverly and
Eugene Frieg, 5799 Porter Road until November 15, 1990 in order for the Friegs
to contact 3 contractors who are to meet with an i.nspector from the Building
Department and present estimates of the work to be done, seconded by B.
Schulz, and tmanimously approved. Mr. Smith, a neighbor, questioned if the
City could not contact contractors in order to help the Friegs. Mr. Conway
stated that this could be considered a conflict of interests.
Members discussed a letter from the Mayor regarding the expiration dates of
Mr. Spoerke and Mr. Konold. The clerk was looking into it, but the Mayor
stated that he would wait until the end of the year to resolve the problem.
2
