one window and they prefer not to do this since the attached
garage will be covering another window. Building Coirnnissioner Conway
advised that such an addition would probably have to be incorporated into
the adjacent room in order to meet building code requirements. Mr.
Schulz pointed out that when Mr. Wright moved the adjacent house, it took
him well over the year he was given to complete the exterior. Mr. Gareau
stated that Mr. Wright is in a better financial, position now and can
complete the house more quickly. Mr. Hatton stated that Mr. Wright had
done a really good job with the other house, it is beautifully landscaped
and a house on that property would be far better than the empty lot. Mr.
Konold agreed with Mr. Hatton that this would be an improvement. J.
Konold moved that permission be granted to move a house from 4863 Dover
Center Road to permanent parcel 232-10-47 Porter Road and that a 42±
square foot variance be granted for the area of the house, seconded by J.
Kazak. Roll call on motion: Konold, Kazak, and Burk, yes. Mr. Schulz,
no. Motion carried. Mr. Schulz stated that he had no problem with the
house move, but he would prefer that the house would conform to code.
After Mr.. Gareau left the room Mr. Schulz stated that a time limit
should have been stipulated. Mr. Conway advised that when the building
permit is issued he would be given 3 months to complete the exterior of
the house, but he .could apply for extensions for up to 9-'im6nths.
(landscaping is handled by the Engineering Department). Mr. Burk
suggested that Mr. Conway only allow two 1 month extensions and if the
house, is not completed on the outside within that 5 month period, it
should be referred back to this Boaid.
V. OLD BUSINESS:
Mr. Schulz has received a letter from Dow Chemicals regarding how they
are responding to the Carboflorides in°styrofoam. -Building Conunissioner
Conway advised that there are building codes that°control the toxicity of
materials and what can be exposed.. He stated that styrofoam was not a
big item in a house. He further stated that styrofoain insulation is
rarely used for insulation in a liou.se, but is generally used around the
exterior of foundations. There is a styrofoam home whicfi is approved in
the codes which are very clear on what toxicity can be used and the
manner in which it is installed. Mr. Schulz also reminded Mr. Conway that a year ago in Ma.y, Developers
Diversified was granted a variance, not to rebuild a garage for a period
of one year, Mr. Conway advised that this house is .to be moved and all
the approvals have been given. Mr. Schulz stated that the house is in
horrendous condition. He was advised that the Service Department.did
have a complaint on the property and was in the process o€ citing the
owners.
Mr. Burk pointed out that the Minotti property was again in bad
condition in spite of the Board's previous order Mr. Conway stated that
he was in the process of citing the owner.
VI. NEnT BUSINESS :
Review for approval of Tuff-N-Dri Exterior Waterproofing System:
Chairman Burk administered the oath to S. Smith, president of Modern
Waterproofing, T. Banks, the manager, and R. Greco, awner of R.A.G.
Custom Homes. Mr. Smith eXplained that Owens-Corning developed this .
2
