continued along either side of the proposed mansard, but lower than the
proposed and also that the planting islands be installed symmetrically with
the center line of the buildings (equally spaced) and planted with honey
locust and some low planting which could be decided later, seconded by B.
Zergott, and Lmanimously approved.
3) B.P. Oil Company, 29131 Lorain Road.
Proposal to renovate existing gas station.
Originally heard by Architectural Board of Review November 21, 1990.
Referred by Planning Commission April 9., 1991.
Mr. Stapp, representing B. P. Oil, presented photographs of a station which
has been done in a similar manner: overhang will be removed, and a new
alumintml composite installed, this silver alpolic panel will be carried over
on to the rear elevation; canopy over service pumps will be a B. P. Green
alpolic ma,terial and will be illuminated. At the previous meetings, members
were concerned about the rear wall of the building. Mr. Gallagher suggested
that the entire block wall could be wrapped around the rear elevation to cover
the electrical wires on the rear of the building, pointing out that Stearns
Road would be widened and this will be very visible. The fence on the trash
area in the rear should be 6 foot and pa.inted to ma,tch the wall. It was
suggested that the electrical service could be moved, but Mr. Stapp believed
it would be less expensive to extend the wall. The members discussed various
methods to accomplish this. Mr. Sohn would like to see revised drawings before
approving the proposal. Changes will be made and plans referred to r1r. Sohn.
Mr. Stapp asked if they could continue the green panel on the side elevation
because it is so visible. The members agreed. In reference to the separate
dtunpster on the site, Building Commissioner Conway advised that it could not
be in the 50 foot side setback without a variance. Mr. Stapp agreed to enclose
the dumpster in a natural cedar 6 foot board on board fence and would attempt
to relocate it if necessary, if not they would attempt to get a variance. The
members agreed that the natural cedar would blend in better in this location.
Mr. Conway pointed out that there would be panels over the pumps which are
internally illuminated in the same manner that is on the Great Northern
Station. The members voiced no objections. It was clarified that the
landscaping would be similar to that on their other stations. Y. Sohn moved
that the 8 inch concrete block wall should be returned and continued to same
height and width at the southeast corner as well as on the opposite side of
the gates to existing height, a 6 foot gate should be installed and stained to
match the color of the concrete block wall, the silver fascia should be
continued on the entire back wall; the green band can be continued along the
entire east side wall; and the landscaping should be similar to what is on the
other stations, seconded by T. Gallagher, and unanimously approved. It was
clarified that these plans will be sent to the Building Department and
forwarded to Mr. Sohn for approval.
VI.
