Case, T. Gallagher, and B. Zergott
Absent: Y. Sohn
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
Heard at end of ineeting
III. SIGNS:
To be presented later.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
No items.
V. NEW BUSINESS:
1) Great Northern Dodge (Boaters' World), 26075 Lorain Road.
Proposal to construct building.
Mr. Wilks, architect, explained that originally Boaters' World requested that
they design a building for the property; however, now they are requesting that
the building be similar to their other ones. He presented a photograph of the
building to be duplicated, and advised that plans will be drawn from the set
of plans that were submitted. The frame colu nns shown in the picture will be
eliminated. The blue omega ply facia with a red band (non-illUminated) wraps
around the entire bui.lding; the matching blue canvass awning will return about
40 feet on the east side and about 30 feet on the west and overhangs the
building by about 5 feet. Building Commissioner Conway pointed out it would
appear from the photograph that the canopy was back lighted, and advised that
this would probably not be acceptable. Mr. Wilks stated that the ba.ck lighting
could be eliminated. Unlike the first proposal, there will be no glass on the
rear wall anly service doors. Mr. Conway pointed out that the rear wall would
be seen from Brookpark Road, and questioned if the mechanical equipment would
be visible. It was determined that these tmits are set back enough so that
they would not be seen from Lorain Road, but they might be visible from the
center line of Brookpark. After some discussion it was decided that, since
both the fascia and units were metal, painting the units to match the fascia
would be an effective screening. Mr. Conway advised that if, during the
construction, he decided that they might be visible, he would bring this back
to the Board. Mr. Wilks clarified that the building will be a 8 by 16 inch
beige scored block, not split face block, but he had no sample of this
material. The members are concerned about the looks of this block, and did not
think beige would be compatible with the other colors. After some discussion
and considering that no sample was presented, it was decided that a white
1
