CITY OF NORTH OLMSTID <br />BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS <br />MINUTES--AUGUST 7, 1991 <br />Chairman Gomersall called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br />Present: T. Gallagher, J. Maloney, T. Restifo, and R..Gomersall <br />Absent: B. Grace <br />Also Present: Law Director Gareau, Chief Building Inspector Sanker, and Clerk <br />of Commissions Ori.ng. <br />T. Gallagher moved to approve the minutes of July 10, 1991, seconded by J. <br />Maloney, and unanimously approved. <br />1. Sunoco Oil Company, 23370 Lorain Road. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 19.41 square foot variance (one side) <br />to install pole sign. Also request 20405 square foot variance for total sign <br />area to install new signs. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.06(F)-4 and <br />1163.06. <br />Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oa.th was <br />administered to Mr. Kelleker, sign contractor, who explained that the existing <br />pole sign was to be removed. Mr. Gomersall advised him that pole signs will no <br />longer be permitted after January 1, 1998 so any variance that is granted will <br />include that the variance is rnull and void on January 1, 1998. Mr. Kelleker <br />agreed stating that Sunoco would be willing to put that in writing. He explained <br />that they are upgrading their pole sign to ma.tch their new image and will <br />actually be reducing the square footage of sign area that is on the property <br />now. He pointed out that their competitors' new signs are all larger than this <br />one. J. Maloney moved to approve the request of Sunoco Oil Company for a 19.41 <br />square foot variance (one side) to install pole sign and also a 204.5 square <br />foot variance for total sign area to install new signs, subject to the limit of <br />January 1,• 1998 when pole signs are to be banned by the new Planni.ng and Zoning <br />Code of North Olmsted, seconded by T. Restifo, and unanimously approved. <br />Variance granted. <br />2. Graves Piario and Organ, Inc 29150 Lorain Road (formerly PBM Office Building). <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 33 inch location variance to use and <br />enlarge existing ground sign (please note: sign will then be a pylon sign). <br />Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.12(B). Also request variance to keep <br />changeable copy portion of sign for advertising. Violation of Ord. 90-125, <br />Section 1163.04 (K). <br />Chairman Gomersall called all jnterested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to Mr. Graves, the owner, and Mr. Woost, sign contractor, who <br />advised that they are now planning to move the sign so that it will be within <br />the correct boundaries, and that they had never intended to have the changeable <br />copy portion. The request was withdrawn. <br />3. Robert and Marilyn Moyle, 6052 Forest Ridge Drive. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request 8 foot reax yard.variance to construct <br />patio enclosure. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.08(a). <br />1
