Deictunann, City Engineer
RE: Flood.ing and Drainage Problen on SouthPorter Road
On March 10, 1992, Assistant City Engineer, Dave McDermott, inspected
Sublot 300 on Porter Road. A copy of his report is attached. It appears that
drainage problems with the lot are nrinor, and thep would be properly addressed
in the normal course of correctly grading this lot when the-house is
constructed in order that raa water from Sublot 300 is allowed to drain oarto
neighboring property. .
Ftirthermore, the Service Department is plarining to clean and regrade
ditches along South Porter Road thi.s sunmer. The Fngisieering Department will
be providing assistance in setting proper grades for the ditches. I firnil.p
believe that the work plarmed for the ditches will reduce flooding problesns
related to obstructed or Undersized ditches, and that the slight increase in
stormwater drainage from the construction of one house wi11 be insignificant
compared to the drainage inprovement that is planned.
With respect to a comprehensive drainage study, the Engineering
Department does not currently have the available- time for a field crew to
collect topographic data regard.ing drainage problems prior to you meeting of
March 26, 1992. Several other projects have already been assigned to the crew
for pIan preparation for projects to be constructed later this year.
I would, therefore, recommend that m drainage study be conducted
before the ditch work is completed. -
`
? ` .
Paul W.
