customers lmow where the banks are. If this request is refused it might hold up
the entire sign program. Mz'• 1`'Ialoney explained that when banks change over, they
cannot do anything until the merger is approved and then there are deadlines
which must be observed in identifying the individual banks. He believed this
would be better than having a canvas covering the signs. B. Gomersall moved to
grant to Society National Bank permission to install new sign face changes on a
temporary basis not to exceed 45 days during which time the formal request for a
variance will be presented to the Board of Zoning Appeals, seconded by J.
Ma,loney, and imanimously approved. Variance granted.
In reference to the Chi Ch.i's sign discussed last month, Building Commissioner
Conway advised that the perhaps this sign contractor was not specifically told
that this Board would deny a new pole sign, because he started talking to the
Building Department the first part of the year and at that time the Board ha.d
not developed a policy concerning new pole signs. Now the Building Department is
advising people that there is a good possibility that a pole sign will be
denied, but of course they still have a right to come before the Board.
8
