Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(c). <br />Chairman Gomersall called -c11 interested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to D. Sawitke, sign contractor, who explained that the sign is to be <br />installed in an existi.ng sign cabinet which was made tmder the specifications of <br />the previous code. The letters on all the signs are a standard height, and if <br />they do not get the variance, these letters would have to be smaller. They want a <br />3 by 10 foot replacement face which would be uniform with the adjacent signs. The <br />members had no questions on the request. W. Purper moved to grant the request to <br />Papa John's Pizza, 24753 Lorain Road, for a 13 square foot variance for total <br />sign area, seconded by R. Gomersall, and tmanimously approved. Variance granted. <br />Olive Garden, 25984 Lorain Road. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to add bulletin board to <br />prohibited pole sign, also request a variance for the bulletin board <br />(prohibited for a commercial building). Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections <br />1163.22(a) and 1163.03(1)(a). <br />Chairman Gomersall ca.lled all interested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to R. Wagner, sign contractor, and B. Hart, representing the Olive <br />Garden. Mr. Wagner explained the plans to add a 96 by 49 inch steel angle iron <br />frame which will be attached the double poles of the sign in order to install <br />removable signs which will only be use during special promotions after which <br />these temporary banners can be removed. Mr. Hart stated that they would like to <br />use this in conjunction with the 3 major media campaigns during the year <br />(probably 6 weeks total) to encourage customers who have seen the commercials to <br />stop in. He presented pictures to show that this will pose no threat to the <br />comrmunity. Mr. Gomersall suggested that they considered changing to a pylon or <br />ground sign instead of addira.g to the prohibited pole sign. Mr. Hart was Unaware <br />of the new regulations for pole signs. In response to Building Commissioner <br />Conway's question, it was clarified that this area would hold the plastic banners <br />for outside display. Mr. Gomersall stated that he saw no hardship. Law Director <br />Gareau stated tYiat if this were allowed for this franchise, all the others would <br />expect it which would not cut down on signs in the City. R. Gomersall moved to <br />grant the the request for a variance to the Olive Garden, 25984 Lorain Road, to <br />add a bulletin board to a piohibited pole-sign and also to grant the request for <br />a variance for the bulletin board which is prohibited for a commercial building, <br />seconded by J. Maloney. Roll call on motion: Gomersall, Maloney, Ferencik, and <br />Purper, no. Motion failed to pass.
