+ -.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested pa.rties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. D. Frantz, representing Developers Diversified, who explained
tha.t he was fillirig in for the applicant but he believed that the variance would
actually be greater than 96 square feet. Building Commissioner Conway advised
that this is a"V" shaped sign and only one side is visible at a time, so only
one side is used for figuring the square footage allowed, and they are permitted
32 square feet for each side. If both sides could be seen at the same time it
would be a different issue. Mr. Frantz stated that the.permanent sign should be
on the building before November 13th. The members agreed 'to allow the sign for 9
months. J. Maloney moved to grant to the Moen Corporation, 25300 A1 Moen Drive,
the request for a 96 square foot variance for total sign area and a 9 foot height
variance for "V" shaped temporary project sign for a period of 9 months, seconded
by B. Grace, and tmanimously approved. Variance granted.
5. Cross Roads Plvmouth, 27500 Lorain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to ha.ve second free standing
sign; request 1 foot variance for height of the above ground sign; and request 3
foot variance from street right of way for location of sign. Violations of Ord.
90-125, Section 1163.12(b).
Chairman Gomersall called a11 interested pa.rties before the board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Hall and Mr. Riley, representing Cross Roads, and Mr. Woost,
sign contractor. It was clarified that this sign will be installed where a
previous sign had been located. Mr. Woost advised that the loeation could not be
changed because of some existing concrete and the sign will be located inside the
hedges which improves the appearance; the height variance is needed because of
the hedges. One of the representatives stated that they are not permitted to put
their name on the existing product sign. Mr. Grace noted that this dealership had
gone out of their way to comply in the past. The members had no problem with the
request. B. Grace moved to grant the request for-a variance to have a second free
standing sign; a 1 foot variance for the height of the above ground sign and a 3
foot vaxiance fran street right of way for locations of sign, seconded by R.
Gomersall, and unanimously approved. Variances granted.
6. Kaufmarm's Department Store, 25801 Broolcpark Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request' 222.5 squa.re foo.t variance for total
sign area permitted for a business unit; request variance to have 2 additional
wall signs (one allowed); request 112.5 square foot variance for sign area over
the 75 square foot permitted for ea.ch of the above wall signs; request 1 foot
variance for height over maxiimun permitted; and request 6 inch variance over
height permitted for one interior sign. Violations of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.11(c), and 1163.12(a).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested paxties before the board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Kelleher, sign contractor. Mr. Gomersall read the request.
Mr. Kelleher explained that the square footage of these signs has been reduced by
50 square feet fron the May Company signs. The members had no problem with the
request. W. Purper moved to grant the request of Kaufmann's Department Store,
25801 Brookpark Road, for a 222.5 square foot variance for total sign area
permitted for a business Unit; a variance to have 2 additional wall signs (one
allowed); a 112.5 square foot variance for sign area over the 75 square foot
permitted for each of the above wall signs; a 1 foot variance for height over
maximm permitted; and a 6 inch variance over height permitted for one interior
sign, taith the stipulation that this variance is good only imtil January 1, 1998,
seconded by J. Maloney, and unanimously approved. During the framin.ro of the
motion, Mr. Conway:reminded the members that variances for non-conforming sign ..
3
