6 , r--% "•
variance from front setback variance and location variance to have pylon sign in 35 foot
prohibited triangular area. Violat'ions of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.11(a); (b);
1163.12(a)(g) and 1163,12(b).
Chairinau Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Landru and Mr. Krekus, representing Boston Chicken, who
explained that because of the size of the site, they cannot place the pylon sign out of the
prohibited triangular area, and they would like to install it in the green area so it would
be about 2.29 foot offthe sidewalk. The members and Building Commissioner Conway
were concerned about visibility, especially because of the angle of the property. The
sign is on a base and is 8 foot high. Mr. Gomersall suggested that if the same sign were
installed on a single pole it would increase visibility. It was decided to raise the sign so
there would be 4 or 5 feet from grade to the bottom of the sign so that drivers could
see underneath it. Mr. Conway would like something to decorate the pole, like the
Dryvit material that is on the building. There will be individual letters on the front
elevation and a logo on the west elevation. The members do not want the signs in the
windows. The representatives agreed. Mr. Conway suggested that he could supply the
exact square footage for the minutes, rather then figuring it now. R Gomersall moved
to approve the request for Boston Chicken, 26440 Lorain Road, for an 83 square foot
variance for excess signage for a business use; also to grant the request for a 46
square foot variance for excess business building signage; to grant a variance for a
second wall sign; a 1 foot, 8 inch height variance for wall sign on west elevation; and a
7.71 foot location variance from front setback and location variance to have pylon sigu
in 35 foot prohibited triangular area with the condition that this.pylon sign is to be
elevated approxiinately 5 foot from the ground and is to be supported by a single pole.
Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(a); (b); 1163.12(a) and 1163.12(b). The
motion was seconded by J. Maloney, and unauiinously approved. Variances granted.
11. Cellnet Cellular Service, 24532 Lorain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 20 square foot variance for excess business
unit signage. Also request variance for 27.5 square feet of excess signage for a business
use. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.11(c) &(a).
Chairinan Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was
adininistered to S. Gardina, sign contractor, and Mr. Fromm, representing Cellnet who
explained that they wanted a 3 by 15 foot wall sign to be placed on a parapet. They
believed that they have a hardship because the building sets back about 100 feet and
traffic traveling east cannot see the building at all. Mr. Gomersall stated that the
members had seen the location. Building Commissioner Conway clarified that the
ground insert mentioned in the information is e}dsting and is not part of the variance,
that will be addressed at the time pole signs must be eliminated. J. Maloney moved to
grant Cellnet Cellular Service, 24532 Lorain Road their request for a 20 square foot
variance for excess business unit signs. Also to grant a variance for 27.5 square feet of
excess signage for a business use. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.11(c) &(a).
The motion was seconded by W. Purper, and u.nanimously approved. Variances
granted.
4
