. r..... , .
and 45 square foot variance for sign area for a business use. The request should only be for one
additional wall sign. The members had no problem with the revised request. R. Gomersall moved
to grant to J.C. Penny, 6150 Great Northern Mall, their request for a variance for one additional
wall sign (one is allowed); the request for a 34 square foot variance for sign area allowed for a
business building for each of the two walls signs (on the east and south side). Also to grant a 2
foot, 5 inch variance for height of letters on each of the two wall signs, a 45 foot variance for
sign area for a business use and a 90 square foot variance for excess total sign area allowed for a
business building. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Secrions 1163.12(a), 1163.11(a) and 1163.11(b).
The motion was seconded by J. Maloney, and unanimously approved. Variances granted.
Red Robin Grill, 4949 Great Northern Blvd. (Added to A e? nda)•
Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to have search light on November 14-20, 1994
and January 14-21, 1995. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.12(g). Request for temporary
sign which was continued from October 5, 1994 has been withdrawn.
Chau-man Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was admiuistered to
Ms. Kemp-Kopko, and Mr. Humphreys, both representing Red Robin. Mr. Gomersall stated that
he had a problem having this for two separate times. Ms. Kemp Kopko explained that the grand
opening was in November, but there would be marketing campaign in January. She clarified that
they were asking for a single search light, not the double one. Mr. Kobema was concerned
because North Olmsted has a good deal of air traffic now since the main runway at the airport in
under construction. He suggested that they talk to the FAA or the airport. Mr. Maloney agreed.
It was clarified that they would need the light from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Building Commissioner
Conway stated that they would have to shield the light so that it did not shine into the adjacent
structures. Mr. Maloney stated that generally they approved a light for a grand opening or for a
special anniversary, not for two times so close together. Mr. Humphreys responded that if they
had to make a choice, they would prefer to have it for the grand opening. J. Maloney moved to
grant the request for Red Robin Grill, 4949 Great Northem Blvd. for a variance to have a search
light on November 14 through the 20th, 1994 through the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1163.12(g). It was decided to continue the request until the next
meeting since there is no date or time specified to have the search light. The members would like
Mr. Conway to advise the representative that the request was continued. R.
