Brennan moved to accept the minutes of July 11, 1995, seconded by D. Cameron Alston, and
unanimously approved.
III BUII.,DING DEPARTMENT REQUESTS:
1) Laurie's Dance Studio (formerly the Doll House), 30036 Lorain Road.
Proposal to construct addition to the rear of the existing building.
Heard by the board of zoning appeals Ju1y 6, 1995.
Heard by architectural review board Ju1y 19, 1995.
Ms. Kemp-Kopco, architect, and Mrs. Andler, owner; presented a materials list and a revised landscape
plau, as requested by the architectural review board. They eacplained that the lights adjacent to the home
will be a residential type fixture with a 150 watt bulb placed on the posts of the fence since there will be 5
feet from the parking curb to the pole cars cannot back in into the lights; these lights will be shielded in
back to eliminate the glare. Landscaping has been added in the front. Originally, there was to be an open
area on the building; but Ms. Kemp-Kopco advised that owner does not want it since trash and debris
will collect there, so now it is to be filled in. The shingles are an Aspen Gray and will match what is
existing. The representatives explained that the architectural review board did not like the blue color that
they chose, and thought that they should stay with the.existing red, if they could not choose another blue.
Mrs. Andler wants to side the building in a blue similar to the Dewpoint (shown on the color samples)
with white trim. Vice Chairmau Manning did not like the red at all and agreed to review the other colors.
The members did not care for the Dewpoint aud it was suggested that they choose another blue. They
explained that they needed a bright color that would stand out since the house is hard to see because of
the woods. Mr. Manning thought that the Conductor Blue would be a better choice and Mrs. O'Rourke
suggested green, but Mrs. Andler does not like green: Mr. Manning explained that if they were not open
to suggestions, he supposed that the building would have to stay red. Mr. Brenna.n asked if a dance stuclio
had to stand out, and questioned how many customers would stop in on impulse. Mr. Manning believed
that people would check the phone book. Mrs. Andler stated that people were always aware of where the
red house was and she would like a color that would stand out for that kind of identification. Building
Commissioner Conway advised that the this proposal would be forwarded on the BZD Committee which
would make the final determination, and they could present their alternatives to them. Ms. Kemp-Kopco
explained that the siding would have to be painted since they are not sure that they-can find that color in
the siding. They have been told that there is another pallet which the manufacturer is going to send her.
The decorative elements along the side will be a white material. It was clarified that these elements were
described as fiberglass, but the brochure describes them as a polymer material. Mrs. Andler explained that
?.\
