BUII.DING DEPARTMENT REQUESTS:
1) Christ The King, 30635 Lorain Road.
Proposal to construct an addition for class rooms and a gymuasium.
Parcels must be combined.
Heard by board of zoning appeals October 5, 1995.
Heard by arclutectural review board on October 18, 1995.
Mr. Robinson, consultant, presented the plans. Mrs. Cameron Alston asked if they had considered the
arclutectural review board's suggestions about repositioning the building in order to leave more green
space in front. Mr. Robinson explained that they had tried various schemes originally, and this was the
one that worked best in order to meet the requirements for parking and have the least impact on the
residential areas. He presented a new photometric plan reflecting the light on the property with the
lower poles that were required by planning commission. He advised that all the light would be on a
photocell and timer. The only lights that will be left on all night for security are those over the
entrances. He introduced Mr. Swearinger, a lighting specialist, who advised Ms. Cameron Alston that
he did not know the exact number of fixtures that were added, possibly teu, but they have met the
minimum guide lines, approximately 2 foot candles, for pedestrian safety in the parking lot. The
existing light level readuigs range from 13 foot candles down to 2, and under the new desigu, the
readings are about half that, 6 foot candles, in the parking lot; however the mini, nwns are similar to
what is existing, but without the spill over onto the residential properties. There will be 150 watt bulbs
in the 15 foot high poles. He advised that the readings in the city hall parking lot are similar to what
will be installed at the church. He presented a cut of the new fixtures shields to be used adjacent to the
residents where the reading will be zero. He explained to Mr. Tallon that there would be ground
mounted lights on the north side of the building, those at the east side would be down lights on the
building. Mr. Tallon suggested leaving ovly one down light over the door, and possibly two iu the
back. Mr. Robinson stated that only the lights at the entrances would be left on. Mr. Tallon mentioned
that there were several lights over the entrances, and all of them did not have to be left on all night.
Mr. Swearinger responded that one light would be left on for 24 hours at each door. He also noted
that the 150 watt lights on the eastern side of the north elevation could be directed at the facade. Mr.
Tallon would like them directed somewhat to the west, not just straight up. Regarding W. Yager's
comments at the architectural review board, Mr. Tallon asked if they would be willing to landbauk
