A?
.
feet. The forester is going to look at the site, but has not made a report as yet. Mr. Gallagher believed7
that this location is far better than the other one. Mr. Tomsic also pointed out that they had
reconfigured the parking so the cars parked in the Library lot did not have to back into the bus lane. Mr.
Zergott would like to add some more pines to replace the ones that are going to die out and he thought
that the neighbors should look at green rather than a solid brick wall. Mr. Frick is concerned that, if they
plant more, they cannot remove the others when they die. Mr. Zergott responded that the forester could
help them out on that and also stated that he was concerned that some of the neighbors trees would die
out after the building was constructed because of drainage and lack of light. He stated that, if this were
a business, the board would demand that this be done, and if they want a good relationship with their
neighbors, it should be done. The members again discussed the location and Mr. Gallagher explained
that they needed a practice field so they would not tear up the regular field. W. Frick explained that
once the old garage is removed there is a lot that can be done in the area since the community wants
more athletic space. At present, the balls from the baseball diamond frequently break the windows of the
buses; also their insurance carrier is concerned because the area is so small and if there were a fire, all
the buses would go up in smoke since they area parked so close together. Mr. Tomsic stated that the
neighbors were concerned about illicit activities in that area now, and Plauuing Commission had
recommended a chain link fence to enclose the entire area for security. Mr. Zergott suggested that they
plant something in the back that will survive in the shade that is created, such as hemlock. Mr. Gallagher
believed that it was more important to have clear visibility to that area, because of the activity of the
students. Mr. Frick advised that after the Plauuing Commission meeting some of the residents were
concerned because there was no lighting in the back and also they wanted to be able to see in the back
so that if there were problems they could call the Police. They also wanted to keep students out of their
yards. They asked if they would extend the fence further. They have corrected the existing security
lighting and will add more when the new building is constructing. Mr. Zergott disagreed that the area
should be left open, and suggested that they should talk to the neighbors if they want green area or open
area. Mr. Frick stated that they would do whatever the city and the neighbors wanted, but there was a
certain disagreement between what Planning Commission wanted and what the people said after the
meeting. The residents did not want a solid wood fence, they wanted something that they could see
through. The forester has also been asked to look at the site to check on the trees and they will agree to
what he recommends. Mr. Gallagher would like the forester to be aware that security issue is
paramount. Mr. Conway stated that the forester will make recommendations for the existing trees, it is
up to tlus board to recommend what is to be planted. It was clarified that there would be no roof top
units, and the heating for the drivers' area would be on the mezzanine. Mr. Zergott noted that much of
what the developers were saying were not in his notes, and Mr. Frick clarified that this conversation was
held after the meeting. He wondered how it could be determined what the people wanted. Mr. Conway
stated that if they attend the next meeting they could express their opinions, otherwise the school might
want to question them. Mr. Tomsic presented an oatmeal blend brick similar to what is on the existing
building which will be accented by horizontal bands of a darker colored brick; there will be a
Duranodic bronze window and door treatment and gravel stop. He explained that there would be roll up
doors with vision light panels in a factory finished color, probably a beige called buckskin. The wall
lights will be wal-paks, non-glare, directed down in the alley between the building and the neighbors
property and on the side of the bu.ilding. There will be recessed lights under the overhang, at all the
entrance ways. Mr. Frick stated that they have repaired the existing lights, but eventually will be
changing to more energy efficient lamps operated with an electric eye after the build.ing is constructed.
There will be a new board on board £ence on either side between the two buildings 'm order to screen
trucks and the dumpster which will be located there. Mr. Frick stated that the whole front of the
existing area is washed with light at present and goes over the roof of that building and into the
7
