1*
neighbor's yard. T. Gallaglier moved to accept the proposal as presented with the oatmeal blend brick,
the wall lights on the north south and west side of the building which will be run by an electric eye and
to approve the building as presented, seconded by M. Yager, and unanimously approved.
III. SIGNS: (Heard at this point).
1) Brueggers Bagel Bakery, 25853 Great Northern Shopping Center (added to agenda).
Building Commissioner Conway advised that he wanted this Board to review these signs prior to their
hearing by Board of Zoning Appeals for variances. They are asking to have a continuous 2-1/2 or 3
inch'double band of writing in white vinyl along the base of the windows on the inside. This band keeps
repeating the words "Fresh Bagels". They also want 2 permanent window signs and an extra wall sign
on the side of the building. Mr. Zergott stated that the band is so small that it would only be seen by
walkers, but the window signs do have neon letters which the city is trying to eliminate. He suggested
disapproving the window signs and allowing the band. Mr. Yager liked the looks of the window signs
better that the wall signs, but prefers not to have any window signs. He sees no point in having the
letters across the bottom, its like saying "sale, sale, sale". They will probably put up window signs later
on. The board decided that neither the window signs nor the band should be approved because it would
be setting a precedent.
?
2) Beniks' Main Street Cafe (formerly the Ice Cream Parlor), 27045 Lorain Road
Building Commissioner Conway eaplained that the Board had approved a sign for them previously, but
this is not the exact copy that was originally submitted. It is also going to the Board of Zoning Appeals
because the owner wants to raise it to 8 feet high to make it a pylon sign thus requiring a setback
variance. It is now installed as a grou.nd sign for which a variance had all ready been granted. The
members believed that raising it would cause more of a visual obstruction. Mr. Yager noted that there
was little difference between 5 foot and 8 foot. Mr. Conway showed the members a drawing of the
original sign, and the members agreed that they liked the new concept better. They also agreed it should
not be raised. Mr. Zergott commented that he past it every day and had no problem reading it.
VI. ADJOiTRNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
B. Zergott,
B. Oring, CTerk of Commissions.
8
