.

The proposal was presented by Ms. Ziegler, sign contractor wlio explained that front sign identified the
name of the business, but the signs `Balloons", "Party Shop" with a balloon logo on the side identified
that the store sold items other than cards since the name does not indicate that. She believed that it was
necessary to have this extra exposure since they would not be on the tenant sign. Ms. Krieger stated that
approving this would not be consistent with the board's policy of trying to elimiuate advertising verbiage
on signs. Mr. Papandreas asked if they could eliminate these signs for the board of zoning appeals'
hearing and come back to the architectural review board next month after they had discussed this with the
owners. Mr. Zergott clarified that the board merely recommends to the board of zoning appeals, they
cannot actually deny the signs. Ms. Ziegler agreed to withdraw the additional signage.
3) Circuit City, Water Tower Square Shopping Center, 27250 Lorain Road.
Wall Signs.
Mr. Marino, sign contractor for the entire chain of stores, presented the plans and explained that in
deference to the codes they had eliminated all the tag lines that are normally on their buildings. There will
be two signs over the entrance that will have 42 to 36 inch high channel letters in neon to conform to the
sign criteria. Mr. Yager agreed that, since Circuit City is the prime tenant, the sign must be larger and he
noted that this is quite far from the road. The customer pick up sign on front is under the canopy and uot
really visible from the street, but he does have a problem with the additional signs in the rear. Mr. Marino
believed that these were necessary to direct customers to the correct entrance for car stereo installation.
4) Sports Mart, Water Tower Square Shopping Center, 27260 Lorain Road.
Wall Sign
?
Mr. Papandreas advised that Sportmart had reduced the sign from what had been originally submitted to
them. Ms. Ziegler advised that the sign will consist of channel letters in red with a logo depicting various
sports equipment. Mr. Yager believed that the logo served no purpose and questioned if the 4 foot line
crossing the "T" was really necessary. Ms. Ziegler believed that they need exposure from Lorain Road
since the building is set so far offLorain Road and the larger letters and logo are important to the client in
order to conduct his business. She would like to present the logo to the board of zoning appeals. It was
again noted the architectural review board only recommends to the board of zoning appeals. The
members prefer that the logo be eliininated and it was explained that several logos have been eliminated
previously. Mr. Yager believed that the glass front on the building was effective, but questioned the need
for the red accent band shown on the color rendering. Mr. Fiala, the architect for the project, stated that
they had also discussed using a buff color for an accent. Mr. Yager would prefer the buff color and still
believed that the logo should be eluninated and again questioned the necessity of have the long line
crossing the "T".
5) Media Play, Water Tower Square Shopping Center, 27270 Lorain Road.
Wall Signs.
Mr. Parrague, representing Media Play, presented a color rendering of the building and signs. He believed
that a logo was necessary to identify a business especially since this store is not well known in this area.
The blue logo represents today's arts and replaces the muse of the past. He believed this added interest
and sculpture to the architecture. He would be williug to give up the four small signs advertising
`?nusic", "books", "movies" and "soflware" but, because 50% of their customers come from outside of
2
