4
?
the community, the main sign and logo are necessary to identify the business easily. Mr. Yager believed
that the "Media Play" sigu could be seen from an airplane and noted that there was a residents area
behind tlus shopping center. Mr. Parrague disagreed stating that because of the location and the traffic, if
the sign were smaller, it would be difficult to identify the store from I.orain Road and stated that the
triangular logo would be needed to be visible. He explained that the art work in the framed shadow boxes
was done by an in-house artist and changed frequently to advertise various new items. He clarified that
these boxes were actually built into the building. In response to Mr. Yager's question, Mr. Fiala stated
that they had not seen the logo iu color. Mr. Yager believed that this logo would not be recognized here,
and it would be up to their advertising to explain what they sell. He doubted that people would laiow
what the various items were supposed to represent on the logo aud thought that a bright blue logo was
totally out of character with the building. Mr. Zergott believed that the 6 foot high letters would advise
of the location aud the logo would not be necessary. Mr. Parrague noted that the McDouald's logo
would be recoguizable even without a sign, and this one will be eventually. The members agreed that they
would uot disagree with the 6 foot letters, but they would recommend disapproval of the logo. Mr. Yager
stated that if the board of zoning appeals did decide to approve the logo, he would strongly suggest that
the triangle uot be bright blue but that it be the same color as the building. Mr. Panague disagreed and
believed that since tlus is their corporate image, it is important to their building.
Motions ou the above discussiou:
1) Water Tower Square.
B. Zergott moved to approve the Water Tower Square Shopping Ceuter, 27240-27270 Loraiu Road,
development sigu as submitted with the suggestion that the inaroon material be recessed to be more
consisteut with the rest of the building, secouded by S. Krieger, and uuanimously approved.
2) Factory Card Outlet. .,
B. Zergott moved to accept the front wall sign for Factory Card Outlet, Water Tower Square Shopping
Center, 27240 Lorain, with the conditiou that the signage on the side be eliminated, seconded by M.
Yager, and unanimously approved.
3) Circuit City.
B. Zergott moved to approve the signs for Circuit City, 27250 Lorain Road, as submitted including the
signs in the rear, seconded by S. Krieger, and unanimously approved.
4) Sportmart
B. Zergott moved to approve the Sportinart sign with the stipulation that the logo block be omitted,
secouded by M. Yager, and unanimously approved.
5) B. Zergott moved to accept Media Play, 27270 Lorain Road, front wall sign, but ask that the board of
zoning appeals take a serious look at the 6 foot lugh letters. The shadow boxes with the art work are
accepted as submitted. It is noted that the developers have agreed to eliminate the advertising graplucs
that were shown. This board prefers that the blue logo be eliininated, but if it must remain, we
recommend that the bright blue color be changed and the size of the letters be reduced. The motion was
seconded by S. Krieger and unavimously approved.
Lumberjacks, 5160 Plaza South, Great Northern Shopping Center.
Wall Sign. (added to agenda).
3
