,_
be partly boxed in, and Mr. Mamiing would prefer that the balconies be left open for security and
visibility. Mr. Tallon would like a matching brick the same height as the office, about 12 inches, and put
the stucco up higher. The stairway will also be covered in. Mr. Brennan believed that when everytlung is
closed in, it will make the hallway darker. There are light fixtures, but W. Petroski was not planning to
change the existing. Before the commission approves the enclosed hallway and stau-way, Mr. Tallon
would like to see a drawing of improved lighting, or else it should r.emain open. Assistant Building
Commissioner Rymarczyk advised that there has been a complaint that most of the lights are out. Mr.
Tallon would rather see the balconies left open with the lighting brought up to standard. The pylons on
the brick wall and in front of the ,office could be covered. Mr. Brennan suggested that the white band
could be painted or dressed up, but the railing could remain open. Mr. Shah advised that the railing is in
good shape now, and he will leave it open if that is what the commission wants. He advised that the
lights had been retro-fitted for 20 watt florescent fixtures. It was verified that the brick had beeu painted
with a prior renovation. Mr. Tallon suggested that the brick be stripped to the natural fuush and the
brick could be added on the columns that would match the existing . Mr. Tallon advised that the only
way the commission would allow them to enclose front stairwell would be if they would bring iu an
improved lighting plan. If they just want a white line, they could just paint the railing. Mr. Petroski
suggested that they could put white mesh u.nder the rails, so the light would show through. He clarified
that they are only enclosing the slat part of the railing, they will not be covering the bottom where snow
would build up. R. Tallon moved to forward the Econolodge (Camelot Inn) proposal, 22989 Lorain
Road, to the architectural review board with the following stipulations: that the stucco be removed from
the second floor railing; that the brick be eleaned; that brick be installed to match the office height,
before the stucco is started; the stucco can be added on top of the existing brick structures; the front
hallway or stairways that are shown encased should have a lighting plan to show how the area will be
lighted after it is enclosed; the colors are to be muted, both the reds and white; and the awniug cannot
be back lit. The motion was seconded by T. Manning and unanimously approved: It was clarified that
this would go to architectural review board in November and return to plauning commission on
December lOth.
IV.
